Default In the era of streaming, do videos live and die by their thumbnails?

In the era before social media, Internet, and even television, movies posters were often the sole advertisements for the movies. A movie could often live and die by just one picture: its poster. In the Hong Kong film awards, one poster designer even got a lifetime achievement award for recognizing how important his work was to the industry. I find it funny that the same is true today for video thumbnails on Youtube, Netflix, Hulu, etc. It's not like people will look up info for every single movie. So they often just go by the thumbnail. If that one picture doesn't grab them, they won't see it. It seems some things just never change no matter how advanced the technology has become.
