![]() ![]() With Paramount recently announcing the Blu-ray release of the 1980 miniseries "Shogun," I hope that they won't be too far off in announcing a Blu-ray release of "The Winds of War." I'm currently watching it on Netflix, and it is nothing short of excellent!! Probably one of the best miniseries ever made, and 30 years later, it has stood the test of time!! Plus, brilliant performances from an amazing all-star cast, including Robert Mitchum, Jan-Michael Vincent, Ali MacGraw, John Houseman, Polly Bergen, Lisa Eilbacher, David Dukes, Topol, Peter Graves, Victoria Tennant, and Ralph Bellamy. Paramount, please announce The Winds of War ASAP!!! And I know that there's the 1988 sequel miniseries, "War and Remembrance," which reunites most of the original cast from The Winds of War, but Paramount doesn't own the rights to War and Remembrance, so I don't know if it'll get a Blu-ray release or not... |

Here's one for resurrecting an old thread. Just picked up a mint DVD set at the Goodwill store for 2 bucks.
There is a Dutch Region Free release - 845 minutes on 2 BD-25s, so it might be an exercise in deep compression. Will check it out before the BD decision https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-W...Blu-ray/13683/ |

This is a bit of a random question and I don't know if anyone will pick it up on such an old thread but I'm trying to find some info on The Winds of War.
Back in the early-mid 80s we got a puppy that my eldest brother got from some friends whose dog had had a litter. I remember hearing at the time that all of the puppies had been named after characters in a very popular TV mini-series that at the time was running/had recently run, and my recollection is that the series mentioned was The Winds of War. We spelled our dog's name phonetically as "Heimy" or "Heimi", and being young I had no idea whether or not that was correct. However, very recently I became aware for the very first time of the Jewish name Chaim, so I'm pretty confident that that was the actual name of the character in the TV series (whichever one it was) after which our dog was named, BUT I can't seem to find a character with that name listed in The Winds of War. So now I'm a bit flumoxed! I've never seen The Winds of War, so can any aficionados of the series help me out? Was there a character with a name like "Chaim" or "Heimy" in the series? The naming of my dog and the correct spelling has bugged me for many, many years... |

I re-watched The Winds of War fairly recently but can't remember any characters that might fit the description tbh.
The time-frame doesn't quite fit (1987), and it wasn't a mini-series as such, just a long TV-movie, but ESCAPE FROM SOBIBOR has a character named Chaim Engel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escape_from_Sobibor |
