Disney Tangled (live-action)

Quote:
Ahead of the Christmas Day release of his experimental Robbie Williams biopic Better Man, Michael Gracey has entered negotiations to direct a live-action Tangled film for Disney, Deadline can reveal.

A modern retelling of the classic Rapunzel fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, Tangled is being described as a revival of Disney’s Oscar-nominated 2010 animated feature of the same name, which was the 50th put out by the studio. Plot details are under wraps but the film is expected to follow along the lines of the animated version.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the multi-hyphenate behind titles like Do Revenge, Thor: Love and Thunder and Sony’s upcoming reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer, penned the most recent draft of the script. Kristin Burr and Lucy Kitada will produce for Burr! Productions. No word yet on casting. +

I'm thinking about how the character is turning 18 in the film, that perhaps Pugh is past that age.

I was going to suggest Sabrina Carpenter, but I didn't know she was already 25 years old. Still not a bad idea (she just has big eyes that work perfectly for the animated character we're accustomed to, plus we know she can sing), but man time flies. I still mostly associate her with her work on Girl Meets World, so perhaps it's a far cry thought now.

There are probably other talented, younger actresses that are better suited overall.

Honestly, I’d rather get a dark adaptation of the original Rapunzel story by the Brothers Grimm instead. I want to see Guillermo Del Toro do it no more sanitizing these stories give me all the dark parts, and do not make it a musical at all.

Tangled is one my favorite Disney movies along with cartoon series (and I’m not against the live action remakes) so I’m definitely excited for this.

In terms of age and general appearance I’d pick McKenna Grace.

Please NOT Sabrina Carpenter...she turned her whole image into nothing but sex. I find her gross. Just about anyone but her.

Probably the best Disney Animated flick of the last 20 years. I'm not a huge fan of these live action remakes, but I'd be curious to see what they do with it.

The only ones left that could actually make money are Tangled and Frozen.

Yes.

Disney has no creativity or originality anymore. Only remakes.

I’m assuming they’ll skip the one where Rosanne Barr played a talking cow

Considering they did one where it was just cgi animals and another where most of the movie consists of only 1 actual human and are doing Lilo & Stitch and Moana now, do you really have to ask? lol

I like a couple of Sabrina Carpenter's songs but I don't like when she's just talking melodically, so I wouldn't want her to be Rapunzel. It'd be hard to pick somebody current who can sing and act well enough for the role.
