Default Warner Archive...Ultra HD Blu-ray?!

What's this all about?! Warner Archive typically means that the disc is a DVD/BD-R rather than a pressed DVD/BD-ROM. However, there is no such thing as a BD-R 66 or BD-R 100 that will play on an Ultra HD Blu-ray player. The players can only play BD-R(E) 25/50 discs. BD-R(E) 100 and BD-R 128 discs fall into the BDXL family, not the Ultra HD Blu-ray family, and will not play in an Ultra HD Blu-ray player. This effectively makes it impossible for the bad guys to make and sell bootleg copies. Isn't every Ultra HD Blu-ray a pressed disc? Did Warner somehow develop some mysterious BD-R 100 that is Ultra HD Blu-ray compliant?!?!

All of Warner Archive's Blu-rays are pressed. None of the ones I own are BD-Rs. I don't really understand the distinction in BvS's case as it seems to include a digital copy which most WAC titles do not, nor does it appear to use the WAC branding. Maybe it's just the distribution model?

I concur; Warner Archive blu-rays are pressed discs in my experience. Their DVDs, however, can be either pressed or burned.

No. Warners' MOD Blu-rays are mostly pressed, not burned. This will be a conventionally replicated 100GB UHD disc.

I think it's exactly that, yeah. This is one of the first big 'remastered' double dips that there has been on the UHD format in the five years of its existence and Warners don't want to take a chance and press bajillions of them, so they're letting WAC handle a smaller print run.

I don't believe there has ever been a single burned BD from WAC. They just do tiny 500 copy runs when each one comes close to running out.

DVDs on the other hand are pressed for the first run and then burned as needed afterwards.

With Warner Archive finally boarding the UHD train, they should give us the archival versions of a certain 1982 sci-fi film. #justsaying

Yeah, that's the bigger takeway from all this for me: if WAC are finally getting into UHD - and not just because Warners proper can't be bothered for this one title - then it throws open a massive realm of possibility. WAC have been doing a lot of 4K restorations from OG negative lately as well...

The Final Cut, sure. But what about the various cuts of the film that existed 25 years prior?
