Default Match Point?

I see that Match Point Seems to have been relased on Blu Ray, Sadly in costs a fortune and seems to be some sort of import. I did get an import of "The Island" and am very happy with it, I must have all Blu Rays with Scarlett Johanson, even "The Spirit" but I would hate to pay some huge price and have it come out a week later in a better format for less.

One of her best films along with the Prestige. What has happened to her lately? She seems to not put out any quality work. Spirit was god awful.

Exactly... can't wait for Iron Man 2.... The Spirit was not that bad in my opinion. I like Samuel L.... I thought it was just one of those movies meant to be over the top....

Does anybody have this version that can comment on the quality and if there are forced subs or any other drawbacks?

Default Frankly Scarlett (sorry, that was awful)

I guess I am still smarting from the "Sin City" import I bought, only to have it come out a month or so later as a huge re-issue at less of a price then I paid for a bare bones import. I also have Tomb raider 2 and The Island. I have not see TR2 as a US release yet, so I am happy with the import. I usually get movies on Amazon for under $25.00, like "A Serious Man" for $20.00 or the Harry Potter films. I am going to Las Vegas in a couple of days and can check out Fry's Electronics, they rule, they have the best selection anywhere, perhaps they have it there. Can't wait for IM2.

I second that...I actually don't like many Woody Allen films (one exception being Annie Hall) and I loved Match Point. Definitely not a keeper for everyone, but worth checking out at least once.

The one in this link is the Australian version, correct? On a couple of different sites, it says it's Region B locked. Anybody know if in fact it's region-free?

Even when this is released in the US, the only thing that could possibly be improved is the video.

Woody Allen has some tough stipulations for his home video releases and just starting embracing stereo audio on his releases. Match Point was presented on DVD in mono as per Allen's wishes. Further, Allen does not approve releases with video or audio based extras. He only wants the movie with audio and subtitle options. He has no issues with theatrical trailers or with the liner notes from the MGM DVDs of his United Artists films.

The Hong Kong disc offers PCM 2.0 which I doubt the US release will have.

Speaking of Scarlett and Woody, you should check out Vicky Cristina Barcelona also. Match Point was quite good as well.

I have a feeling it'll be a long long time before we see any Woody Allen stuff on BD. Vicky Cristina Barcelona is the only title available now, and that's only because it's his most recent film.

I can almost guarantee that if/when Match Point comes out on Blu, it'll be barebones just like the DVD.

Whatever Works is also available.

But, yes, aside from his new films going forward I don't see the various studios rushing to put his films out on Blu-ray. Part of it is that his films may sell well to a certain demographic, but it's usually limited. The format will need to grow some more. Additionally, most of his films are with MGM, and they're basically on hiatus until the library is sold. And now Disney is possibly selling Miramax, so there's a few more titles in limbo.

Allen is not one to participate in bonus content, so that only hurts the marketing of his catalog titles.

Being with DreamWorks and a more recent film, Match Point actually has a better shot than most of the others.

I don't have it but I would be wary of it. The cover picture is identical to the Alliance Canadian release, and that one has been opened up to a 1.78 aspect ratio instead of the original theatrical 2.35. It doesn't lose any information at the sides - instead you see more information at the top and bottom as it was shot in that ratio, but it's not how the director intended it to be seen.

The Dutch release is in the correct ratio, but the audio mix isn't ideal with dialogue occasionally hard to hear over other sounds, and there is an annoying momentary audio drop-out near the end.

I think the best hope for a really good release will be when New Line get around to doing it in the US. That will be region-free as they are part of the Warner organisation.
