United Kingdom Suspiria (2018)

Anyone know what the status for a UK blu-ray release is? I've given up hope for a 4K release here.

I know it was only released theatrically in November so I might be asking prematurely. The BBFC list the theatrical distributor as MUBI so what does that mean for blu-ray? Is it likely to be Lionsgate like in the US?

I just bought the US blu-ray for £14.55 from wowhd - although it will be region A locked, so it’s not an option for everyone. Regarding a UK release, I’m sure MUBI would want to debut the movie on their streaming service, whether they do that the same day as a potential physical media release awaits to be seen, but I’d imagine the UK will have to wait a while yet, whereas the US release is out next week.

MUBI only bought theatrical rights - the streaming service it’ll go to is Prime Video. Last Flag Flying (Curzon) and Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot (also MUBI for theatrical) didn’t get UK home media releases so neither will this.

Yeah it's pretty unlikely to be getting a disc release unless anyone has shown interest to Amazon to release it in the UK. There's a slim chance but considering the film didn't exactly catch on, and the frequency we're seeing films getting released on Blu, I wouldn't remain too hopeful.

im not holding out hope for a BD.
UK are not good at releasing modern smaller titles on blu, most get dumped onto DVD only.
I will wait for german 4k review to see if the german parts have english subs.

Unlike Netflix, Amazon take a long time to add the movies they have rights to their streaming service.

Has anyone seen this to recommend? I’ve got the original, that released in December 17, its an ok horror nothing super special, to me. Is this remake better or just terrible?or does it just hold up as a good movie if you ignore it’s a remake (like a lot of remade horrors) as remakes tend to get sneered at regardless.

Hard to say, do you like lengthy, slowburning euro arthouse dramas, or any of Guadagnino's earlier films? His remake is nothing like the original and I think it is a good film and a worthy remake, but it's also frustratingly overlong and more than a little bit pretentious if I'm being honest about it.

Tough one to say, completely different from the original in most regards. It's slower, and more about the hierarchy of the witches and has more intrigue to the plot than the more straight forward slasher plotline of the original. It's a lot more indulgent but I found it quite refreshing and was never bored or unengaged through any of it and it captures that era of filmmaking perfectly, plus the Thom Yorke score is to die for.

Only real reservation I'd warn about is that it's not scary in the slightest, so I wouldn't expect a full blown shocker.

Thanks. I get the picture. It doesn’t sound like a day one or expensive import for me. (Although £14.55 delivered isn’t) It’s a curious £5-£8 pick up.

If I didn’t have a ton of films to watch, blind buys, new releases and rewatching those I keep promising to, this would be something I’d try sooner.

This is 4k steaming on Amazon Prime now. I really really enjoyed it, as others have said it is nothing like the original in tone, style or visuals. But it also has definite similarities in story line but fleshes the plot out substantially . My favourite remake of a classic 70/80s horror and also the one I was least looking forward too.

Spot on! I felt like Amazon wanted a remake of Suspiria but Guadagnino was more interested in a film about the Berlin Wall.

I'm around half way through it, I didn't realise how long it is! It looks gorgeous and there is a very sinister tone throughout.

I'm enjoying it, but it is bugger all like the trailers.

Better than the original? Hell no!

Edit: Finished it last night. Bloody hell! That 2nd half went downhill fast!

Guys, looks like MUBI are straying into Blu-ray releasing with both Suspiria and Under the Silver Lake:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Suspiria-Bl...dp/B07RB7DQT2/

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Under-The-S.../dp/B07R5VVXDT

Hope they consider doing the same for upcoming titles like Border and Madeline's Madeline, and maybe even go back and do Don't Worry He Won't Get Far on Foot (which I enjoyed massively). Not that fussed about Under the Silver Lake though (not sure how I felt about that film on the whole).

Streaming site who started getting into film acquisition as well as distribution. Been around for a few years now - basically just like BFI Player or FilmStruck/The Criterion Channel.

Sorry, I will now!

Huzzah! I had the opportunity to watch the 2018 reimagining/remake at the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield when it had the theatrical release. I didn't think it would get released on Blu-ray in the end, but thankfully it did. Many folks watched the 1977 original first but I did the exact opposite so my thoughts/reactions will differ from others, though I did pick up the original as soon as possible (really interested in checking out Dario Argento's other works now - mostly Inferno, Opera, and Phenomena).

I spotted Border on Amazon which is due for 15th July. Both Border and Under the Silver Lake look pretty interesting after watching the trailers.

Both Border and Madeline's Madeline were among my favorites of 2018, grab them if you can!
