I am thinking that the reason this is the first title to be released on Blu-ray is because of its detail. The argument that upscaled DVD is just as good as Hi Def will not work for this title. I stole this from IMDB.
The elaborate background paintings usually took seven to ten days to paint. By contrast, a typical animation background takes one workday to complete. For anyone who has seen this movie knows what I am talking about. the backgrounds were inspired by medieval tapestries. Hopefully Disney will release another Pixar movie on BD before the fall of 08, but we will probably be lucky to get another with the release of wall E next fall. |

This was painstakingly computer restored just a few years ago. I don't think they are going to do any more restoration on the film. Personally I thought the DVD looked great.

I had the same reaction. I need to watch it again. There was one point where they had a side-by-side comparison of restoration and original and the restoration looked good, but the rest of the scenes looked disappointing.

I realize this is an old film and its bound to have some rough spots. We were probably both being extra picky because our jaws were still on the floor after seeing Cars! ![]() |

Also, I noticed they mentioned something called Tinkerbell coming to DVD and Blu-ray next fall. Looked like it was a straight to video thing. --Darin Last edited by darinp2; 11-07-2007 at 07:16 PM. |

Which brought up the ethical question--Would it be "restoration" to remove them, or leave them in? ![]() |

When you can see paint brush stroke, it mean then done their job.
I mean on Transformers BluRay (Anime 1986) you can see every single dust trapped agaisnt the multiple layer of cel actually moves in some scenes. YOu can see brush stokes on Background art... |

Though since Disney has spent 45million on it, they must've wanted to salvage SOMETHING . Apparently it was beyond abysmal |
