Sony Pictures Sony hopes to release Quentin Tarantino's final film

With The Movie Critic definitely scrapped for good, Sony is still aiming to be the studio that will distribute Tarantino's final film, and a Sony executive is hinting that there is "more to come" but that he "couldn't talk about it" just yet....

For anyone that wants what was said without clicking on the article.

Quote:
“We hope Tarantino makes his final film with us,” he said. And while O’Dell didn’t provide any details, he said there was “more to come” that he couldn’t “talk about.”

With Sony now owning the Alamo Drafthouse chain, I wouldn't put it past them to ask QT for some "special" features (like the pre-show footage they show) that can only be seen at Alamo Drafthouse theaters.

"Sony Teases Quentin Tarantino’s Final Film", what a clickbait title, legit thought he reconsidered making The Critic, Hateful Eight style, only for it to be an empty "hope we distribute Quinty's next, whenever that happens" statement.

I wonder why he scrapped 'the movie critic'. Maybe it was casting issues. Maybe he lost faith in it as he was preparing.

He likes to talk so we will probably find out in a podcast or something.

Tarantino reveals in conversation with Bill Maher that he's been working on a play.... which, if popular, he would then make into a movie.

Quote:
Maher then tells Tarantino that he should just stick to making his final movie, and Tarantino says, amusingly, that “if it turns out to be a popular play then I’ll probably make a movie out of it.”

I mean... this guy has always done things his own way and has been counted out many times but always seems to come through with something good.

I feel like he just lost interest in The Critic.

A QT stage play could be absolutely amazing. Or it could be too talky and self referential to ever gain altitude. Or a combination.

I'm definitely intrigued.

Just make you movie and stop trying to make it an opus.

Usually when a director says something is going to be the last thing they ever do, it tends to mean they're physically or mentally unable to continue, or just tired of it and don't really want to make anymore movies.

I guess Quentin is not a big fan of making movies or he wouldn't say this is his last film as if he was 100% sure of it. It's sort of like saying "I'm done with movie-making so this will be my last one and that's it. Finished." Quentin Tarantino is only 61 in 2024. And here is Ridley Scott, almost 85 with no plans to stop making movies because he seems to love it.

He's got some good ones, but some clunkers in there too. Death Proof, I think even he said could've been better. I saw that during the theatrical double movie release with Planet Terror, and I thought Planet Terror was way better of a movie overall IMO. Some love Death Proof, but it lost me with the women talking at the table for what felt like half the movie, with no topic dialog connection to the underwhelming car chase later on. I'll have to watch it again to be sure though. For a car chase, I was expecting something amazing but it was very linear and tame.

DJango Unchained, Inglorious Basterds, Kill Bill, I like those Quentin films. Haven't seen Once Upon in Hollywood yet. Hateful Eight was okay. Reservoir Dogs was interesting. Jackie Brown was good I thought. Pulp Fiction, I only saw parts of it so far.

Ridley Scott will be 87 this year. He’ll be almost 90.

Ridley has directed 29 movies so far, Tarantino may or may not make a 10th film.

Not all directors have the same stamina, nor should they be expected to.

Thirty-two years after Quentin Tarantino‘s Reservoir Dogs premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, the two-time Oscar winning filmmaker was back in Park City today.

Rarely at a loss of words and a love of cinema, Tarantino — who workshopped the flick starring Tim Roth and Eddie Bunker in Sundance’s Directors Labs before it hit the screen — showed up Monday evening in a surprise sit-down on upper Main Street as the 2025 iteration of the Robert Redford-founded gathering went into its final days.

“I’m in no hurry to jump into production right now, I’ve been doing that for 30 years,” Tarantino told the audience on his emphasis on writing of late. “I kinda want to not end up doing whatever movie I end up doing until my son is 6,” the semi-Israel-based filmmaker and father of two said of his absence from the director’s chair in the past few years.

Why do I get the feeling his final film is going to turn into a GRRM Winds of Winter situation where people are hotly anticipating it yet it just sits and gestates for 10+ years?

Why is Sony still not releasing the 4 hours cut of OUATIH?

When this 10th film is finally released (if ever), Tarantino will be an old man and all his efforts to avoid making films past his prime will have been in vain.

Tarantino also said,

Quote:
“If you’re wondering what I’m doing right now, I’m writing a play, and it’s going to be probably the next thing I end up doing,” he said. “If it’s a fiasco I probably won’t turn it into a movie. But if it’s a smash hit? It might be my last movie.”
