Warner Bros The Way Back (Starring Ben Affleck; Directed by Gavin O'Connor) - March 6th, 2020

Quote:
Synopsis: A former HS basketball phenom, struggling with alcoholism, is offered a coaching job at his alma mater. As the team starts to win, he may have a reason to confront his old demons. But will it be enough to set him on the road to redemption?
(Forgive me if there is already a thread but I searched by the film title, Ben's name and Gavin's name and nothing popped except for the Accountant 2)

Anyways, this screams like a real missed opportunity for Awards play. A film where the star plays a man battling alcoholism who is also battling the same demon in his real life and just suffered a setback? Hollywood loves to sympathize with an actor who has a demon and shows it through his craft. Ben could've easily gotten Best Actor based on this trailer.

WB pushed it back from August to March 2020 since they think it could play better during March Madness.

Looks very solid. Wonder if this role was difficult or easy for Affleck.

Skipped the trailer but sounds like a good premise, just hope it ends up better than the last time Affleck and O'Connor teamed up.

Way too many movies with this title already.

The Way Back (2010), The Way Way Back (2013) and now it's back again in 2020! Oh shit. That means in 2030 we will yet again get another Way Back title

Easiest way to see if there's a thread about a movie is to go to the movie's page (or a movie with the exact same name), and then click "Forum" to get the corresponding threads, or at least the threads with that title.

This looks pretty good. I wonder when this was filmed and if it lines up at all with any of Affleck's recent relapses. Not that we should be digging into his personal life, but I am genuinely curious. Some actors have trouble separating their role from their life.

Despite some people's opinions of his acting abilities, I've mostly enjoyed his output.

Another sports drama from O'Connor. I love Miracle and Warrior. I'm in.

Looks like it'll be a very personal movie for Affleck. Thought The Accountant was hot trash but I have yet to watch Warrior so maybe that'll change my mind about O'Conner.

Pretty much my feelings too. The Accountant was slick but the story was horrible. This trailer was really good.

I gotta admit this looks great, previously voiced my dislike for Ben's Acting ability or lack thereof but it looks like he's going to be Amazing in this. Never thought I'd say I want to see a Ben Affleck film, this is getting my cash, definitely be seeing this at the Theater. Can't wait to see it. Not even a Basketball fan, that looks like it's going to be a top notch Performance.

Have passes to see this tonight, but as usual, won't be able to go. Would see it this weekend but if I can go to the movies, I'll probably see Invisible Man.

Got my tickets for Friday night. Gavin has a good history with sports movies. Hoping that trend continues.

Dammit. I screwed up my scheduling. Well, I'll see it. I'm a big Affleck fan, and this looks to be definitely good. I can relate. Maybe I'll go see it when I go see Bond.
