I have seen a lot of lists of best DVDs in terms of picture quality, but none of the worst ones
![]() The first spot takes Criterion's "Branded to Kill" (1999). This one takes the distinction of being the only one-star disk in terms of video quality among 2000+ DVD reviews in list from Widescreen Review Magazine (published sometime in 2000). Quite an achievement indeed. Thanks, Criterion ![]() The second on the list is "Blade Runner" (1997), one of the first DVDs ever made. It earns 5 star for video quality from the same Widescreen Review. It's quite amazing what passed as five star back then. Some VCDs look better. And, finally, Aliens (1999). Also five stars from the same magazine. Looks much better than #2. You could see the obvious progression in what passed as five stars back then. But some really horrible noise and artifacts. An excellent material to see how different video processors take care of the defects. These three DVDs refer to three different grades of worst quality. Some video processors manage to pull out watchable picture out of them. Last edited by jurid; 10-01-2020 at 08:45 PM. |
