Default 77" lg c1 oled

Hello,

I just purchased a 77" LG C1 OLED and I am hoping it isn't too large for my viewing distance. I sit about 9 feet away and picture from DirecTV isn't the greatest. I know it's not 4K and every program will look different depending on quality.

Just wondering if I should have went with the 65" instead.

The viewing distance recommended for a 77" is 10.8ft. So the viewing experience won't be ideal whatsoever. I'd recommend the 65" for a 9ft distance.

I wish I would have come to this forum sooner. It's already purchased and hanging on the wall. It is massive and would be a pain to take down, box back up, and return it.

A 9' foot viewing distance is just fine for a 77" TV.

The recommended viewing distance for different size TVs by resolution level is shown in the image below:

This is the link I used. I got different information by using the slider. But I would say if you're watching 1080P feed or content you would want a larger viewing distance. The 4K UHD will look good, but it's not ideal.

Also, I'm very jealous of your television. Haha.

Ha Ha thanks! I probably should have went with 65" but too late now...hopefully it will work out!

Anywhere from about 5' to 10' is perfectly fine for viewing 4K UHD content on a 77" TV. I watch my 85" TV at a distance of 9' and all resolutions look great.

I have a 85" Sony X900F; not an OLED, but OLEDs in this size were out of my budget at the time.

I have a 77" LG CX OLED and the distance from my eyes to the screen is about 8 feet. I've had it for about 6 months and the viewing distance has been perfect for my sensibilities. It is a close shave, though. When I first got it, I was sitting closer and it was a bit of a strain on the eyes. I noticed there was enough give with the wiring to push my TV console back about 4 inches. Once I did so, it was like it snapped into place and everything was great and comfortable to watch. I had been considering splurging for an 83" model and I'm glad I didn't.

I haven't had time to really watch it much yet, but I'm worried about eye strain and having to move my eyes around the screen so much at that close distance. A lot of people say it's perfect distance and some say it's a couple feet too close. There is no chance at returning it, so I guess I'll have to make due with it and hope for the best!

My 85" screen comes close, but not quite, to filling my field of vision seated 9' away. I never have to scan the screen by moving my eyes. I find the experience to be very immersive. With your 77" screen at the same distance, you should have no problems at all. Ultimately, the only opinion regarding the best viewing distance that matters is your own. Find your sweet spot and enjoy that beautiful new TV of yours.

The only TV that has ever given me eye strain is the 60" 4K 3D TV in my office and then only after watching 3D blu-rays for over 3 hours consecutively.

You can always move further back if it's too big. I think the advantages of a bigger screen outweigh the drawbacks. Like others have said, it'll make for a more immersive experience. Personally, sitting 9 feet away from a 65-inch screen would be way too far for me so I think you made the right choice. I sit about 4 feet from my 65-inch TV too.

For what it's worth I currently have a 72" and sit about 8 feet away and it's perfect for me. Sure when I'm watching SD it looks pixelated, but I've gotten used to it...

The more you watch your 77" the smaller it'll become, and you'll get accustomed to the size. When I bought my LG 65" OLED at Best Buy, the salesman (who was assisting me) had mentioned that a few customers who've bought the 77" had returned them because they were too big inside of their home. I almost got the 77" myself but I would've needed a bigger TV stand, and I didn't want to wall mount it, so I just went on and bought the 65" instead so it could fit on my existing TV stand, and I'm glad I did because the 77" would've been too big for the size of my room. Whoever is buying the 83" OLED TVs must have a gigantic room for that beast.

Necro bump. I never even measured my distance from the TV, but yeah, my living room is pretty big, and even though I am satisfied with my 77 inch OLED, I already know once the prices start coming down on the 83s around this time next year I am gonna want one.
