Default Cloud Atlas 4K

This needs its own thread.

I've seen it mentioned in other threads, I myself have mentioned it elsewhere, but if "those who matter" use these boards for indications of how much people want this in 4K, it should have its own discussion thread.

To me, this film should have had 4K before Jupiter Ascending. There is talk (with a thread of its own) for Speed Racer and I too hope that one gets a 4K UHD release. But first, please — Cloud Atlas 4K UHD!

Chris

Cloud Atlas is phenomenal. On UHD, it'll be a day one buy for me.

Would LOVE this. Not sure if WB would do it though. The Matrix trilogy made obvious sense, and Jupiter was probably since it was a relatively new title, by extension having more demand for it at the moment. Cloud Atlas flopped liked Jupiter Ascending, but unlike the latter it was acclaimed.

Still clinging on to hope that there will be a complete Wachowskis 4K box set to tie in with the Matrix sequel. Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas (and if studios can work together, Bound!) deserve it!

The extended Cloud Atlas trailer is literally the best trailer that has ever been made. My issue is that the film didn't live up to that trailer. The whole thing fell apart with the post-apocalyptic world double speak bullshit. Such a disappointment.

Didn't read the book, eh? The Fall is an intricate part of the entire story.

Also, language mutation / degradation is a real thing. It's happened before, and it would definitely happen in that kind of future scenario.

Sure. And in 100 years people may speak something 100% unintelligible to me. And in fact, I'd like to bet that in Star Wars, A Long Long Time Ago, in a Galaxy Far Far Away, they weren't speaking English. But if I was reading the novel or watching the movie, it'd be pretty stupid and sales limiting to put it in whatever native tongue it was....

True, and there are probably agents and editors that think this way. But this isn't like a James Patterson novel where everything is dumbed-down, fast-paced, and easy to digest. Mitchell spends the whole book playing with the language, using authentic-sounding dialogue for the 1800s scenes just as much as the 1960s scenes, before inventing new lexicons and structures for the future scenes. But it's not unintelligible--just like A Clockwork Orange, it's just something to get used to, and once the reader does it's perfectly fine. This is what made it a fascinating read, and for a piece of literary art, it's impressive.

The movie reflects this accurately, just like A Clockwork Orange reflected Nadsat accurately. None of it is easy on the ears, but it's not that hard to follow either, and it wouldn't have made much sense if they all spoke 21st century tongue.

Was hoping The Matrix 4 would be reason enough to put Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas on 4K (and fix the minor errors on the existing Matrix 4Ks).
