Default "Dracula" (Netflix mini-series)

I didn't see a thread for this, so I thought I'd post it as a fan of vampires and any and all things undead.

Quote:
Your first look at Netflix’s Dracula is here! And, the streaming network announced the release date!

The horror miniseries Dracula will begin streaming on Netflix on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020. Netflix shared the news on social media, along with the new trailer for the series, which is based on Bram Stoker’s classic story. It looks scary!

Claes Bang stars as Dracula in the new series, which is co-production between Netflix and BBC. Netflix has global streaming rights to the series.

Bang is joined in the series by Dolly Wells, Joanna Scanlan, John Heffernan, and more.

According to Variety, Jonny Campbell, Paul McGuigan, and Damon Thomas are directing the three episodes of the series. This story has been adapted many times. What makes this TV series different from other remakes is that each episode is basically a movie, and they’ll each run about 90 minutes.

Thanks for the heads up! Looks great -- But Dracula still doesn't have a mustache! It seems that nobody wants to adapt that part of the novel!

Of the 3 parts, the first one can turn some off right away with the portrayal of Dracula as a wise cracking and not so funny vampire. I was on the fence myself. The last 2 episodes are a complete reversal and my wife and I found it very different and engrossing. It's a very well done ending and what happened to Lucy was creepy, morbid and sad. I'd watch it again in the near future. Very different take on the Count.

There is a thread in the UK section for it with more discussion, as it's released there by BBC.

I watched it on Monday, and thought the first 2 episodes were great, the 3rd was not.
BTW I swear they got Christopher Lambert as the "really old" Dracula during the first episode...sounds JUST like him.
Hopefully if they make more of this, it will be more like the first 2 episodes...

There was a small bit of inconsistency with the show.
[Show spoiler] When Dracula staked that first lady she just laid out on the floor. Later he stakes a ghoul/zombie child and it makes the poof sound but it doesn't show either a body or ash. Then in the last episode when that girl got staked she exploded into ashes.
Other than that my big question from Episode 3 is
[Show spoiler] Why didn't the humans just kill Dracula instead of taking him in for study? I assume they were wanting to find out if they could also become immortal without the need to feed on blood, perhaps? It's never explained. Maybe there will somehow be more seasons that will delve further into that aspect. Also what is up with those idiots giving him a tablet with access to the internet? Why give him a tablet at all?
All in all - I enjoyed the show.

Spot on there. I was a little reminded of Lucifer (with Lauren German). But if you can promise me this changes, I will watch the other episodes.

I've watched the first episode, it's pretty decent so far, though where's Van Helsing? This is supposed to be a reimagining of Bram Stoker's Dracula AFAIK.

The nun is a Van Helsing descendent in the first episode.

Thought this pretty horrid. Bad acting and bad special effects. Vampire baby in first episode looks like Chucky. And where the hell is Renfield?

Just finished the third episode.

A good illustration of the Law of Diminishing Returns. I liked the first episode, thought the second was OK, the third was pretty poor, and the ending was complete crap.

First episode - quite good as long as they're in the castle, not that good later on. - 6/10
Second - better than first overall, until last scene... - 7/10
Third - failure of epic proportions - 2/10
