So I don't know if there's a thread for this anywhere but the director of Your Name has a new film on the horizon that's scheduled to come out this year (at least in Japan, no word on what the release date in the US will be) and some official stills have finally been released. Take a gander:

The synopsis is as follows:

High school student Hodaka Morishima leaves his home on an isolated island and moves to Tokyo, but he immediately becomes broke. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds a job as a writer for a shady occult magazine. After he starts his job, the weather has been rainy day after day. In a corner of the crowded and busy city, Hodaka meets a young girl named Hina Amano. Due to certain circumstances, Hina and her younger brother live together, but have a cheerful and sturdy life. Hina also has a certain power: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky.

One of my most anticipated films of the year. I've liked everything Shinkai has done, and Your Name is probably his strongest work to date. I'm excited to see how he follows it up.

It's certainly looking as gorgeous as one would expect.

GKIDS has picked up distribution in the USA. It'll be out in 2020.

From Makoto Shinkai, director of the masterful smash hit, Your Name, this already looks to be yet another masterpiece from him. And honestly, from the looks of it, I hope this wins Animated Feature come Oscar night. Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2 are both completely unnecessary and I feel they’re gonna be very inferior to their predecessors. I haven’t seen any of them yet but at least from what I’ve seen looks far more emotional and interesting than anything I’ve seen from the latter two.

Kept seeing the headlines and wondering if this was the latest from The Your Name director. I think the foreign language push is just a way of attempting to bag a Best Animation nod more than anything, but I’m very much intrigued by it nonetheless.

So has anyone found out if there's any regular matinee showings this weekend? I know the special screenings are there for Wednesday and Thursday and the official site says everywhere on Friday but none of the theaters around where I live seem to be showing it. :/

I was able to Watch it in Germany already. Absolute Masterpiece. And an Ending which will keep me thinking for a while.

I really would appreciate someone explaining it to me.

I've been a fan of anime ever since I saw a dvd cover of AD Police. That was nearly 18 years ago.

When I think if anime I think of GITS (show and original movie), Akira, Nausicaa, Serial Experiments Lain (not quite highschool) and obviously Cowboy Bebop.
