Well the show really didn't benefit much from the use of 3D. There were a few moments that had some good 3D visuals but nothing captivating. For the most part it wouldn't have mattered whether you saw this in 2d from off the TV or in 3D. It was nowhere near on par with Day of the Doctor.

I will still get the Blu-ray. It might prove a little better on the home theater system. I will give my two cents worth after it gets here.

Well, the 3-D wasn't all that spectacular, and it has a lot going against it because so many scenes were a bit on the dark side to begin with.

The cinema presentation also included the new prequel to Series 9 and a Q and A with Peter Capaldi and what's her name. Capaldi gave a few small hints of where the new series might be going...

Yeah true, I forgot to mention that it was so dark for the most part.

Her name is Jenna Coleman.

Watched the Blu yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the 3d - the title sequences and TARDIS were brilliant in 3D but there was strong depth pretty much throughout... maybe more in the first half than the second.

Not much in the way of popout though, and some of the weaker CGI elements (the Cybermen flying on what increasing looks like piles of grey squirty cream) stood out a bit more.

Oh and the audio has had a bump to Dolby TrueHD 7.1, if that is any use to anyone!

Doctor Who: Dark Water / Death in Heaven 3D
September 22, 2015 - U.S. Release

Loved "Doctor Who: The Day Of The Doctor 3D" and now Looking forward to this one!

The BBC has an excellent record for producing strong, intense 3D Blu-rays, with examples like tiny GIANTS 3D, or Wings 3D,
Hope the 3D is strong, like it was for Doctor Who: The Day Of The Doctor.

Thanks.
I'll have to see an episode somehow as I haven't seen a Dr. Who episode aside from the 80's with the Dr guy with the curly hair who wears a scarf and brown coat.

I've already got my days off from work to go see that. Now I need to go ahead and get my tickets.

I found Day of the Doctor to be a watch once type affair. I love supporting 3D blu rays and buying all live action releases but i have to make the exception somewhere and as someone who's just not a fan of the show i'll probably skip this.

Tom Baker is probably my favorite Doctor of them all.

$6.96 on Amazon. I have the season box set but I figure for seven bucks it makes sense to pick this up since I could always end up getting a 3D tv down the line. If not, it's just $7.

Got this disc at Wal-Mart on BF for $7 as well. As a kid, I watched alot of the old Who.

Haven't seen any of the new modern Who yet, this should be interesting...

just discovered this 3D release is a thing that exists, with it being only available in the US do i need to worry about any PAL/NTSC conversion as it's a BBC production?

Are there some conversion issues from original broadcast -- probably some minor issues though nothing of importance that I remember.

No problems with it playing on US players -- as far as I'm aware all Bluray 3D discs are 24p (that may be a requirement)

I rarely use discs anymore so I had to go through my disc archive lol. But I found the disc and it plays fine on my ordinary UK blu-ray player. If you are talking about playing it on a US blu-ray player then the message above mine answers that. Although I would always assume that a disc only available in one region is playable in that same region

thanks for the replies, guys

probably should've mentioned i'm in the UK and i would be using it on a UK player but i guess this seems fine, my main worry was with it being slowed down with it being a US produced disc of a UK tv show but i guess with it being 3D it's a different area of video standards

According to Amazon it's NTSC and it seems to play fine in my blu-ray player and apparently as part of the blu-ray standard, PAL players can play NTSC by default. I was going to check the file to be certain but I have re-encoded my copy so I would have to rip the disc again to get the info.

It's a 24p encode which is standard for all BD players around the world

There is probably some slowdown issues but audio is pitch corrected. I find it very difficult to detect slowdown as long as the pitch frequency is correct. People that are supersensitive or know a scene intimately may be able to pick up something, but I'm not one of those. `
