Default Marvel Studios to regain Daredevil TV rights in late 2020

Quote:
Marvel Studios won't have to wait much longer until Daredevil can rejoin the MCU. Via Screen Rant, the fan campaign known as Save Daredevil has calculated that only six months remain until the rights to Daredevil transfer from Netflix back to Marvel.
Due to the nature of the contract between Netflix and Marvel, the latter isn't able to use characters like Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones until two years after the cancellation of their respective shows. Netflix canceled Daredevil in late November 2018, meaning Marvel will regain the rights to the character in November 2020. As Screen Rant points out, Marvel will have also reacquired the rights to Luke Cage and Iron Fist at that point, as both shows were canceled in October 2018. The rights to Jessica Jones and The Punisher will follow in February 2021, with Netflix having canceled its final two Marvel series in February 2019. In less than a year, all five franchises will be back in the Marvel fold.

The question now is when and how Marvel intends to utilize these characters. Will they continue the canceled Netflix shows on a Disney-owned streaming service like Hulu or Disney+? Or will they recast the roles and reboot this particular corner of the MCU? As it is, the connective tissue between the Netflix shows and the MCU movies was limited, to the point where we argued fans should stop pretending the two are connected at all.

Fans were briefly given hope that Daredevil star Charlie Cox might reprise the role in the upcoming third Spider-Man movie. Unfortunately, Cox shot down that rumor, telling ComicBook.com "I hadn't heard those rumors, but it's certainly not with my Daredevil. I'm not involved in it."

Only time will tell how these characters will be integrated (or reintegrated) into the MCU. For now, Marvel has big plans for other live-action superhero series on Disney+, including Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel. And unlike the Netflix shows, these Disney+ series will be closely intertwined with the MCU movies.

He was great as Kingpin. Charlie Cox also did a really good job as Matt Murdock/Daredevil.

If Marvel wants to bring back the original series, it won't be on Disney+ due to the adult content. If Disney+ wants the character on their service, it's probably better to reboot the whole thing than alienate fans of the Netflix series.

Could always put it on Hulu... then they don't have to water it down for Disney's family friended stuff. There were also rumors about a love triangle between Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Carol Danvers, with Jessica being at the center... or whatever you want to call it since it's a triangle

I'd be fine with a reboot, but then we have to slog through more origin stories with the Netflix characters... if they keep the same actors, then we can just let the Netflix stuff stand as their origins and then let it go to Hulu to keep the same content or go to D+ or movies with less adult oriented/violent stuff in the future.

First, take Charlie Cox's words with a grain of salt. Remember when Marion Cotillard infamously said "I'm NOT Talia" regarding said rumors in The Dark Knight Rises? And we all know how THAT turned out. And honestly, it was the only answer she could give at the time, anything short of that, even a simple "I can neither confirm nor deny these rumors" would be spoiling the "twist", same thing with Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock being in Spider-Man 3, which would make all the sense in the world given the FFH ending.

And you can't just make a show with rapists, child molesters, human traffickers, decapitations, strangulations, etc. family-friendly, not unless you're hellbent on destroying continuity, so no on Disney + for DD S4. If they bring back DareDevil, either reboot it or put it on Hulu.

Looks like 2 seasons are available on Blu Ray so maybe I'll check it out.
(I don't subscribe to Netflix but I do have some friends who do so that may work out)

I actually like the movie version and watched it the other day.

Was the show ever 4K ? ... did it stream in 4K ? ...

Or they can use the characters in movies as well, instead of just D+.

Spider-man just loves a team up movie lol.

Default The obligatory "manage your expectations" reply...

Overall I really like the series, but...

It's very repetitive. DD gets into extended fight, DD takes lots of hits but keeps on getting back up, DD wins fight (or escapes), DD deals with punishment his body has taken back at his loft. Rinse, wash, repeat...

The fights are well choreographed. Some (like the rightfully praised hallway fight) are next level good. The character moments are pretty good. The cast is great.

The series, like almost all the Netflix Marvel shows, suffers from being 13 episodes long with no stand alone stories. If all the shows had been 8 or 9 episodes long (like The Defenders) they would have benefited greatly.

Season 2 of DD is my fav season of a superhero show ever. If it actually comes back I'm going to be very excited but cautious at the same time. There's no way Disney would keep the show as dark and graphic right?

Even though the rights go back to Disney most likely if they want to continue the series with or without the same cast it would most likely be on HULU and yet we still have not heard much what Disney has planned for Marvel/Hulu series.

There is another thing if they want Daredevil part of the MCU even if the series is TV-MA which has been the same questions asked about Deadpool and probably for Blade if it will be R-rated how they work with PG-13 MCU.

I thought that was the entire point of the PG version of Deadpool known as Once upon a Deadpool.

I guess that was a redo of DP 2 ... But they could censor them both and add in some cute stuff.

Once Upon a Deadpool was Fox's idea before Disney took control (and Ryan Reynolds only agreed to it if some of the proceeds went to charity and he gets to kidnap Fred Savage).

As of right now, the only Hulu series is the upcoming Helstrom show, which is supposed to be open but not obviously connected to the MCU since it was Marvel TV and not Marvel Studios like the D+ ones will be. Everything else Marvel TV had has been cancelled or is ending. Helstrom moved to Marvel Studios when Marvel TV shut down, but the Marvel TV crew still oversaw the rest of production

They've said before they didn't plan to mess with Deadpool's rating. They can have him by himself in R rated movies and then just tone him down if they ever want to use him in a MCU film. They don't need to all be connected 100% of the time. I think that's something Marvel needs to realize, they can go do their own thing, they don't have to be intertwined so closely all the time or have to always set up some future event.

If they continue the shows, it has to be the same cast, and they HAVE to at least get Charlie Cox and Krysten Ritter back. All the rest can be guest stars on the other shows if they have other things going. Luke Cage presents the biggest problem with bringing the show back since the two actors that NEED to be back are Mike Colter and Simone Missick and they both have CBS shows right now.
