Default Hill Street Blues in HD review?

I was wondering if Hill Street Blues had been remastered in HD. I think it's only been on DVD, but Vudu has it's seasons for sale and listed as HDX. I was curious if anyone had reviewed them for quality. I'm a bit shocked this show has not been released on blu ray. Thanks in advance.

As far as I am aware, "Hill Street Blues" has not been officially remastered in HD for Blu-ray release. The series was originally shot on 35mm film, which means it could be remastered in high definition, but there has been no news of any studio undertaking this process for a Blu-ray release yet.

However, the fact that Vudu has it listed as HDX does suggest that there is a high-definition digital version available. HDX on Vudu typically refers to a 1080p resolution with Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound, which is a step up from standard DVD quality. While this isn’t quite the same as a full restoration you’d expect from a Blu-ray remaster, it's likely the best available quality as of now.

If Vudu has indeed an HD version, it’s possible that they've used an upscaling process to enhance the original standard-definition footage. Upscaling can vary in effectiveness, sometimes providing a noticeably sharper image, while other times, the improvements are more subtle.
Hope that helps!
Thank you for the analysis. Much appreciated. I'm also a fan of NYPD Blue and although the series has never been released on blu, the HD versions look very nice on Hulu. Of course, my eyes are probably less critical than most.

If one cop show deserves HD bluray release Its Hill Street Blues! Just Picked it up online for $30 used set. Half way thru season two now, in the middle of the "Captain Freedom " Episodes! Would also lke to see Homicide Life On The Streets get the HD treatment as well.

I’m pretty sure Homicide was shot on video so there’s not much they can do with that unfortunately. The DVDs are probably as good as it’s going to get

Seasons 1, 4, 5, 6, 7 are all available in HD to purchase on Amazon Prime video USA. You could buy an episode and check out the quality.

I'm only seeing SD as an option?

I own the DVD set, but a proper HD/Blu-ray upgrade for Hill Street would be my Holy Grail! (along with St. Elsewhere as Holy Grail #2.)

Yeah, I only see 4-7 available in HD from Amazon Prime. 1-3 show as SD. Odd they would only have certain seasons in HD.

It looked awful over there because they turned the DNR knob up to eleven (Think Terminator 2: Judgment Day on UHD).

But the same (re)master on Disney+ looks perfect. 'Cause the glorious film grain is left intact.
Looks good to me on Hulu, but as I said previously, I probably don't have the best critical eye. I'm surprised it would air on Disney + just due to the nature of the show. Ala, the side boob and butt shots. Odd too that it would be different on Hulu since Disney owns most of it.

Don't know what version there is on Vudu, but the versions I've seen look remastered and not just upscaled. It's been available in HD for a couple of years now.
