Thumbs up Quarantine

Quarantine Blu-ray

Love it or hate it, we need a thread for this.
I would call this my favorite horror movie of 2008, but I can't simply because it's an exact scene-by-scene remake of another masterpiece called REC.

Just got my copy today and of course ... it rocks

Nice... anyone saw REC and this one? i know that REC is the original, but i heard that Quarantine is a scene by scene reproduction of the original. Since the original is Region B, 1080i 50i (the way it was shot on handheld HD cam) so importation is a no-go...

Well the movie was shot in High Def 1080p.
But don't look to share this one around for it's attention to detail because the film is just so dark from lack of light. Also the camera movement is very shaky.

All special features are in SD. The audio is good but for a movie like this I felt Sony was missing that xtra punch. "Cloverfield" had the perfect audio for a handheld camera perspective.

Did you know that ...

They filmed Quarantine at the same time REC was still in production.

Mine was just sent from dvdplanet, I hope to get it on Monday... wait a minute, Monday's a holiday... do they deliver the mail on President's Day?

Anyways, I hope it's good, it looks like a good premise, I'm just worried about the low light situation. Well, we'll see!

It really appears to be a tired concept, but I will rent it.

I've never even heard about REC-- when was it made? Is it a "direct-to-video" release?

I believe it was a foreign film, Spanish or something, don't quote me on that though.

I've seen REC and thought it was great so I'll probably see this as well to see the "English language version"

REC is a horror film from Spain. It came out early last year and is not available in America at the moment. I got to see it thanks to a bootleg. However, you can find most of the movie on youtube in separate parts.

Quarantine is just as good, but I do feel REC just seemed more realistic.
Jennifer Carpenter does a fantastic job on acting scared, but some may say she's too much. The way I see it ... if you aren't willing to tell yourself that what you are seeing is real. Then you will not like this movie and laugh the whole time. Let yourself be entertained instead of acting like a smartass.

I kept thinking how better acted REC was in the scenes that shared the exact same dialogue. However the few new scenes that were not in REC are the strong point of this movie; it may simply be because I had not seen them before, but they felt really scary.

I laughed when they showed you the cameraman which you never see in REC, right at the start, and he's black. Yep, that's Americanized.
