Default Immagine Ritrovata restorations

(sorry if this is not the right sub-forum)

What's the deal with L'Immagine Ritrovata? The last film restored by them I watched is The Working Class Goes to Heaven (sadly only available on Prime Video) and it looked great. I do notice (like everyone) that their restorations are instantly recognizable, but I refuse to believe they have uncalibrated monitors or other maybe too simplistic explanations. They teach film restoration classes, they recently opened an Asian branch (with brand-new 4k Bruce Lee restoration which, well, have their peculiar look), can they really be so wrong? Then again, it's unlikely that every film has to have that certain look that their restorations always have. I'm puzzled.
