Default Against All Enemies (Kristen Stewart; 2018-2019)

I'm not sure when this will be released, as it just says that filming will start in spring 2018.

Kristen Stewart will play Jean Seberg (Godard's Breathless being her most famous role). The story will follow the FBI's attempts to discredit and otherwise trouble the actress once she became involved with the Black Panthers in the late 1960s.

Jack O'Connell will be playing an FBI agent, while Anthony Mackie will be playing a civil rights activist (possibly a Black Panther, I'm not sure).

Benedict Andrews, who directed the Rooney Mara film Una, is directing.

That's all I know for now, but I'm really interested. I think Stewart is absolutely perfect casting for Jean Seberg. And her recent work has been excellent for the most part. Very exciting.

Never knew anything about that story... sounds like it could be great.

Still need to see Una. Heard so-so things, but I love Mendelsohn and Mara.

I remember reading a bit about it, but I'm not particularly knowledgeable about it. I agree, could be a very interesting movie.

And I've been meaning to see Una forever. I was hoping it would come to Netflix or Prime, but it hasn't happened. And the Blu-ray is way too expensive for a blind buy for what, as you point out, has had mixed reviews (even if Rooney and Ben are always great). Looks like I'll just have to rent it for $5.99 on Amazon.

It looks like the director, Benedict Andrews, has quite the acclaimed career on the stage. Lots of Shakespeare, Genet, Chekov, Williams, etc. It's always interesting when directors come from the theater to film. My experience with theater, outside of opera, is quite minimal. So it's fascinating to me.

Vince Vaughn & More Join Kristen Stewart In Jean Seberg Thriller ‘Against All Enemies’ – Cannes
by Nancy Tartaglione - May 9, 2018 11:07am

EXCLUSIVE: Against All Enemies, the political thriller that stars Kristen Stewart as iconic actress Jean Seberg, has added key cast components. Vince Vaughn, Zazie Beetz, Yvan Attal and Stephen Root are all now on board for the Benedict Andrews-directed film. Fred Berger (La La Land) and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones of Automatik are producing alongside Kate Garwood and Stephen Hopkins. Phreaker Films, led by Alan Ritchson and Marina Acton, has come on board to produce and finance. Bradley Pilz of Bradley Pilz Productions is also producing. Sales kick off in Cannes this week via Memento Films International. UTA is repping U.S. rights.

Along with Stewart, Deadline previously revealed the cast includes Jack O’Connell, Anthony Mackie, Margaret Qualley and Colm Meany. Filming is set for June in LA.

Seberg, an American actress who spent half her life in France, was a darling of the French New Wave. Because of her political and romantic involvement with civil rights activist Hakim Jamal (Mackie), she was also a target of the FBI’s attempts to disrupt, discredit and expose the Black Power movement. O’Connell plays the ambitious young FBI agent assigned to surveil her, only to find their fates dangerously interwoven.

Vaughn is set to play Carl Kowalski, the FBI agent in charge of the investigation, who is not afraid of bending the rules to his advantage, and Root plays Seberg’s longtime agent, Walt Breckman. French star Attal will play the iconic novelist Romain Gary, who was married to Jean Seberg at the time.

Vaughn has been on a hot trajectory of late. He most recently starred in S Craig Zahler’s Brawl In Cell Block 99, and has reteamed with Zahler on Dragged Across Concrete alongside Mel Gibson for Lionsgate which will be seen later this year. In 2016, Vaughn starred in Gibson’s WWII drama Hacksaw Ridge.

Against All Enemies has attracted top creative collaborators including Academy Award-nominated director of photography Rachel Morrison (Mudbound), and Academy Award-nominated costume designer Michael Wilkinson.

Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse (Edge Of Tomorrow 2) penned the script, and will serve as executive producers. They have just completed production work on Captain Marvel for Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and are currently adapting Pulitzer Prize winning novel Blood In The Water for Amy Pascal and TriStar.

Vaughn is repped by WME and Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein. Root is repped by Gersh and Brillstein. Beetz is repped by Gersh.

Phreaker Films is a finance and production entity providing debt and equity investments in film and television that was founded in 2018 by Ritchson and Silicon Valley-based venture capitalist Acton

Bradley Pilz Productions recently produced Naomi Watts thriller, The Wolf Hour; survival drama, 6 Below; and executive produced Margot Robbie bank thriller, Dreamland.

Against All Enemies will be presented by Ingenious Media, with Peter Touche serving as an Executive Producer.

The title of the movie is Seberg and it'll be shown out-of-competition in Venice.

Stewart looks perfect in the role. But after seeing Breathless so, so many times, that's what I immediately associate her with, and nothing else really. Seeing her presented in color just weirds me out.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

OK,

First: This is K-Stew's performance of her career. I don't know how this could be less obvious.

Second: This looks about as engaging as it could possibly be. Good damn, I am all over this!

She's clearly got some Grade-A material with which to work here; that's something she hasn't always had, sadly.

Of course, my being a major Jean Seberg fan doesn't hurt one bit.

I agree. They keep pushing her on the world too. Like that one used car in the corner of the dealer lot that they just can’t sell. The lime green one with crank windows, a stick shift and no air conditioning.

You said" I don't know how this could be less obvious." Should it be obvious, I don't follow?

The biggest surprise for me was that Vince Vaughn is in this and playing a secondary role at that. When did his career start stalling? At any rate I agree that KS is fantastic and gives a mesmerising performance. Too bad her last few movies have all underperformed
