We are just short, quick months away from the end of 2022, and a full six years into the 4k format. This year is seeing a great many classic horror films flood onto the 4k scene, but plenty of heavy-hitters and fan favorites are still stuck in limbo in 1080p. I thought it would be interesting to see what titles other forum members are jonesing for the most in 4k and would buy instantly this coming year, if made available. Your wants list can of course also include films that are more obscure, or very unlikely to get a 4K for myriad reasons. I’ll kick out just a few for starters that I’d love to see roll out in 2023, but my personal list is enormous. Part of my short list for 2023 is based on other releases that happened in 2022.
Inferno (1980) Opera (1987) Nightmare On Elm Street 1-4 (pretty low-hanging fruit) Cujo Phantasm Franchise Friday the 13th 1-4 (ignoring the Paramount misfire) The Slumber Party Massacre (1982) My Bloody Valentine (1981) The Burning Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) The Amityville Horror 2: The Possession Candyman 2: Farewell to the Flesh Phantoms (1998) DeepStar Six Scanners The Brood Rabid (1977) Shivers The Crazies (both 1973 and the 2010 remake) Day of the Dead (1985) The Prey (1980) Eaten Alive (1976) Burnt Offerings The Mist Village of the Damned Messiah of Evil Cold Prey 1-3 Wither (2012) Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (1974) Night of the Living Dead (1990 remake) Zombie Holocaust (1980) Deathdream (1974) Even seeing a small fraction of these drop would be a huge win in 2023. And yes I’ll be controversial and admit that I’d take both Rob Zombie Halloween Films and the first three Jeepers Creepers films on 4k next year, in a heartbeat. In the Mouth of Madness and The Blob (1988) are two pretty recent blu-ray releases from Shout that I'm still hoping they don't sit on as 4K's for too long.

Jacob’s Ladder…what a tremendous and somehow often overlooked creep-fest. It’s almost shameful that the title hasn’t found its way into 4k yet.
And of course, I still keep holding out hope that Turbine will drop a Hellraiser 1-3 4k trilogy box set on us soon….. I wonder how many folks would be eager or willing to buy Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 (1990) on 4k uhd next year, since Turbine dropped TCM 1974 4K with hdr this year and VS is dropping TCM 2 4K later this month. I’m wondering where the 4K studio love is for films that did well in theaters and retail such as The Conjuring 1 and 2. On its face, it looks like more obvious low-hanging fruit. It’s especially odd that Conjuring 3 dropped in 4K from day one, and the Conjuring trilogy only got a blu ray 3-pack that same year. Talk about a lazy move.

Titles that I think have a pretty decent chance of hitting 4K next year:
The Burning Friday the 13th Parts 2-4 Hellraiser Poltergeist II/III The Slumber Party Massacre Films celebrating their 35th: Hellraiser II Killer Klows From Outer Space Pumpkinhead Night of the Demons Films celebrating their 40th: Cujo The Dead Zone The House on Sorority Row Psycho II (could also see part III getting a UHD as well) Sleepaway Camp (possible box set) 2023 is also Jaws 2's 45th anniversary and Jaws 3-D's 40th. |

Rosemary’s Baby is such an important film for the genre. Just the idea of a half-azz, lazy, grain-managed blunder from Paramount on this title is a repugnant notion. Hopefully some boutique goes after the 4K rights. Oh please.
Another older title that gets lumped into other genres or generally gets passed over by the studio is Altered States, which I think still qualifies as a fantastic classic body-horror film in its own right with an excellent script, and desperately needs a 4K make-over. I’m amazed that I haven’t watched it more often myself over the years. |

Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural (1973)
It's celebrating its 50th year in 2023, so Synapse can finally release that 4K master that was completed for them years ago. |
