Default Quick Question

I have a quick question about some blu ray drives.... right now newegg has a lg blu ray/ hd dvd drive for 229.00 and I'm really interested in getting it... the problem is my friend had a pioneer drive that he let me borrow and when I installed it I got a error saying something about the format wasn't recognized. I have 3 different programs that say they are blu ray drive compatible but to no avail nothing worked.....

I have a evga 680i motherboard 2 8800GTS (G92) videocards, a 24inch monitor etc.....

From what I've read on newegg and other sites people are sayin a lot of blu ray drives aren't compatible with nvidia chipsets.... is that true?

I just don't wanna get this drive if I'll run into the same problem as the pioneer drive.

Sorry about the horrible grammar I just got off of 24 hour duty.....any help would be greatly appreciated.

You shouldn't have any problems with hardware. The problems usually are caused with the software to play the movies. Also, make sure your monitor is HDCP compliant - if you can connect with the DVI outs from the Nvidia card to DVI or HDMI on the monitor, you'll be OK.

Alright so all of the folks that say that their Nvidia chipsets are not compatible with these drives are wrong? In the newegg reviews folks are sayin that the LG model in question isn't compatible with the SATA controller on the board. I've also read the same about the pioneer drive(BK-202)

thanks for the reply blu!

I"ve never seen a motherboard incompatibility with Nvidia cards, at least in the 8800 series. It's the motherboard you have to worry about, not the drive. The drive just feeds data.

SATA is driven by a controller on the board, but again, I've not heard a word that these drives have a problem with SATA. Something doesn't sound right about that. In any case, I never saw it with my Sony drives...go with one of those if you're not stuck on using HD-DVD media.

Good luck!

Buy the full version of PowerDvD Ultra, it's worth the $100(70-80 if you upgrade from OEM, which you are)

Naw I'm in the Army had Staff Duty. But This is rather irritating it just picks the days it wants to be the right format... I get that error message maybe twice a week. I'm not really sure what the problem is but I'm probably gonna buy the "real" program instead of using what came with the drive.

thanks
