As the title of the thread suggests, we're looking to pinpoint the Next Best Celebrated Acting Performances of film history. Plenty of great turns get ignored or forgotten through the sands of time, and this is a quick way to review and vote for our favorites.

This is for the North American calendar release year of 1974, so to save us clicking on Wikipedia, the following Oscar nominees are exempt:

Best Actress - Ellen Burstyn, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore
Diahann Carroll, Claudine
Faye Dunaway, Chinatown
Valerie Perrine, Lenny
Gena Rowlands, A Woman Under the Influence

Best Supp. Actress - Ingrid Bergman, Murder on the Orient Express
Valentina Cortese, Day for Night
Madeline Kahn, Blazing Saddles
Diane Ladd, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore
Talia Shire, The Godfather Part II

Anything else is fair game! You may notice that the choices are primarily Leading roles, but I'm not going to disallow other selections. It doesn't seem fair or sensible to quibble about Lead/Supporting categories.

Madeline Kahn for "Young Frankenstein". From the touch me not train station parting ("not on the lips - I'm going to that party at Nana and Nicky's later; I don't wanna smear my lipstick") to her comically climactic "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life" moment with Peter Boyle.

Couldn't vote between them because I love the performances of Shelley Duvall and Goldie Hawn too much in these films. For me it's their greatest work.
