Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii (1972)

I did not realize this for a while, but this set has the classic concert movie PINK FLOYD: LIVE AT POMPEII on the included Blu-ray Disc, plus an audio copy of it on CD. The concert mix is not identical to the one on the DVD as they have trimmed and combined some portions to improve the flow for the remixed 5.1, but its pretty close.

So upon finding this out I checked it out, and sadly it is a complete botch job and I am not being hyperbolic. The audio MUST have had some sort of mastering error that occured at some point that went unfixed, as the treble is PIERCING to the level I have never heard on a professional mix. It sounds like they took the master tapes, ran them through a 96kbps MP3 encoder, and then boosted the treble by 50%. Horrible! This impacts both the 5.1 track on the Blu-ray, and also the included CD of the concert; AND it impacts the other album in the box set "obscured by clouds." The same guy who worked on these did a great job on other Pink Floyd albums, so clearly there was some sort of error that occured with the audio files at some point after he completed his job.

On top of the unlistenable audio, the video is bad, too. There appears there was no effort to do a good job of even upscaling with giant chunky aliasing abound all over the place.

Anyway, this was a disaster, so please do not buy it if you were thinking of it!
