Default Ghosthouse / Witchery - 6/30 (Scream Factory)

**NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT!**

Two tales of supernatural Italian-made shenanigans are both coming to blu-ray for the first time! 1988’s GHOSTHOUSE (directed by Umberto Lenzi of Nightmare City and Cannibal Ferox fame) will be doubled-billed with WITCHERY (which sports Linda Blair AND David Hasselhoff!?) for a planned June 30th release. Pre-order links should go up next month.

Amazing news!! I wonder if they might have the Italian covers on the reverse? Not a deal-breaker if they don't include them, but it would definitely be cool.

I've never even heard of either of these movies but count me in for a blind buy.

These movies were made to capitalize on the huge popularity the first 2 Evil Dead Movies had in Italy back in the eighties. Indeed, "The Evil Dead" (in Italy: LA CASA) and "Evil Dead II" (In Italy: LA CASA 2) were such huge hits here that they made these two movies (and many others) as "sequels":

Ghosthouse, in Italy re-christened "LA CASA 3"
and
Witchery, in Italy re-christened "LA CASA 4"

When I was a kid, I always wondered what was the exact "continuity" running inside the series and connecting these later movies with the first 2, until the time I found there was none of it and the movies were not true sequels.

Ha ha They should totally put Evil Dead 3 & 4 on the box, like Shriekshow did with all the fake Zombie and Demons knockoffs!

I've never seen either one these films but they both look great. I had to do double take on the trailer for Ghosthouse, as in the beginning of the trailer I immediately recognized the exact spot in Faneuil Hall Marketplace (Boston), one of my very favorite places. I wasn't expecting that in an Italian film.

Ghosthouse is a whole lot of fun, Witchery however leaves a lot to be desired. Though one scene will stay with you long after watching!

The majority of these Italo sleaze films really are bad in terms of production value and how the "borrow" plotlines from other, popular films but I think nostagia plays a big factor in why people still enjoy them. I watched Fulci's City of the Living Dead and House By the Cemetery in theaters when I was about 9 or 10 and it was a life-changing experience I doubt if I watched these now for the first time I would be able to sit through them

BTW, "LA CASA" translates as "House", or "The House". I always thought the renaming was meant to cash in on the Cunningham "House" series. "La casa 3", or "House 3" , especially, because of the "missing" 3rd entry in the series (in the US). Cunningham needs to finally make that third film, now, before William Katt gets any older

LMAO I always wondered what happened to House 3? For some reason they say the Horror Show is House 3? Makes no sense lol.

No no no no no, you're "off road" my friend. "THE EVIL DEAD" wasn't renamed "LA CASA" to capitalize on the cheap Cunnigham "House" series at all. The Cunningham movies never made it into the Italian theatres, they had never been launched here in the very first place. The Italia Uno channel aired them in the late eighties/early nineties, and that's it.

In Italian, you could translate "THE EVIL DEAD" as "IL MALE MORTO" (the evil which is dead) or "I MORTI DEL MALE" (the dead ones who are evil). Not markeatable at all for us Italians. They just renamed it "LA CASA" (literally: THE HOUSE) because the cabin, and it became a stellar success.

The Evil Dead - La Casa
Evil Dead II - La Casa 2
Army of Darkness - L'Armata delle Tenebre

I remember Ghosthouse, they filmed it at the same location as the house in House by the Cemetery. I thought it was freaky when I was a kid. Glad this finally came to BR.

Would make for a fun "Horror's Hallowed Grounds" extra.

The hotel from Witchery is only a 10 minute drive from there too.

Oh man, wait until SilentNight sees this! I am in shock, Scream Factory actually releasing some Italian produced films. Figures though I just purchased a DVD-R of Ghosthouse because it was widescreen and had a nice print but needless to say I will be picking this bad boy up!

Default Hot Damn!

Ghosthouse... holy smokes. I still have this on VHS. Brings back memories of renting B movies at the local video stores. So many awfully great movies capitalizing on other movies out at this time Will have to buy.

Can't wait for Witchery. The Fireplace scene horrified me as a child, not unlike how one of it's stars (The Hoff!) horrifies me today.
