We are about to announce the release of a Blu-ray of WHITE ZOMBIE, which we are doing in partnership with movie archivist, Cary Roan, who just completed a spectacular restoration, and should hopefully prove to be the ‘definitive version’ of this genre classic.

would love to see Roan involved in more pd film releases, as there are so many great films that don't get the attention they deserve because they are in pd.

Have to see what the extras are..im so weary of different studios releasing the same titles...and this isn't that good a film, but we need a good HD release...I do have the Kino one with the Roan DVD...now this

Roan did the definitive DVD release of it, so this bodes well. Hopefully it will look better than that other DNR heavy BD that came out in January.

In all fairness, the Kino Blu-Ray had a DNR'ed transfer as well as a non-DNR'ed transfer.

if the VCI Blu Ray has these extras I may get it to replace the DVD

I have the Kino blu from earlier this year, so I'll wait and see on this one.

On the DNR issue, I guess it will come down to whether VCI has recovered a more pristine copy of the film. The non-DNR version on the Kino version shows that it was a pretty raggy copy.

I watched this once last Halloween, but it didn't do too much for me. Bela Lugosi was good in it though. I mean, those eyes of his, I have no problem believeing that he could control people with his stare.

Although I've always thought of this as a public domain movie, included in those 50 movie sets, let alone having its own release.

Lugosi was a powerhouse, and this film gave him more to do than most of the movies he was in. You might be attributing the quality of the movie to the bad print you saw. I do that sometimes. Then I see the movie in a good print and it's like a different movie.

Amazon still lists a 9/10 release date, but the Blu-ray.com listing says 5/14/14, and JMK notes 'VCI has confirmed street date change'. Bummer.

Good - time to think about it some more and maybe with the time - they will add more extras to make it the definitive release
VCI is known for pushing back titles - such as Gorgo

Gorgo was only delayed 2 months though. With the restoration complete, 9 months seems excessive for any extras. I wouldn't expect some lengthy commissioned documentary either, not that one wouldn't be great.

I see the release cover pic, on the SEPTEMBER 10, 2013 release page for DVD VERDICT, but the link is to AMAZON, with the 2014 date.
