Default Classic 80s movies 'on' blu-rays that majorly need new masters

Still so many classic 80s flix that don't really have a true full HD blu-ray release. At least "Pretty In Pink" FINALLY came off the list (never had a blu before and the iTunes HD looked rough, better than DVD in that case at least, but one of the rougher, poorest true 1080P masters you'd see).

The blu for "Footloose" literally looks like a sharpened, processed DVD upscale more or less. This one has large block aliasing (like sometimes see pixels as large 2x2 squares (4x4 on 4k screens) and lots of sharpening too.

Not much better for "The Sure Thing".

Almost the same for "Splash" (this barely even got a blu-ray release, just a a few copies from Australia before it went OOP).

I mean we are talking some of the least detailed blus around, less detail than a late gen rate 35mm print. And yet all famous classic 80s films.

Still waiting on a good, non-DNR'ed master for the Back to the Future trilogy. Hopefully the upcoming 4K releases will do the trick, whenever they come out.

yeah, that could use a better mastering for sure too (although it's actually miles ahead of the above titles from what I recall), hopefully the release this year will fix it (some supposed clips on youtube from new master looked like even more DNR though....)

Might as well say most (if not all) 80s films released by Universal

Paramount and Warner were bad at this as well in the early days of the format especially.

Arrow rescued SIXTEEN CANDLES and WEIRD SCIENCE. A shame they couldn't get to Hughes' Paramount films. Yet at least.....

Personally I am more interested in the 80's movies that do not have a US Blu Ray release yet.

“Witness” and “Splash” both spring to mind.

Uncommon Valor
Extreme Prejudice

Wish these would get a US release.
