J.K. ROWLING’S ALREADY WRITTEN THE FANTASTIC BEASTS SEQUEL MOVIE!
POSTED BY ALICIA LUTES ON JULY 1, 2016

Oh my griffin-goodness, you guys: we live in magical times. Times chockablock with fantasy and intrigue, and an expanded Harry Potter universe. We were already head over wands with anticipation for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, J.K. Rowling‘s first screenplay endeavor and the cinematic story of Newt Scamander’s travels in America. But now there’s word that Rowling’s already written the sequel to the film AND has ideas for the third installment of the planned trilogy. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!

While on the red carpet for the film Tarzan, director David Yates spilled the Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans on the matter to Reuters, saying that “We’ve done the first one, she’s written the second one, [and] she’s got ideas for the third one.”

If you’re still standing/breathing/not losing your mind, Yates continued: “When we adapted the books, you would always have to leave out things you hate leaving out because they didn’t quite work within the structure of the storytelling for the movie, or the movie would just be far too long. With this, it’s just pure Jo from the first page to the last page.”

Naturally, we’re over the moon at the thought of the wizarding world’s continued expansion into the movie world. Few things are as enjoyable and exciting as escaping into the world of witchcraft and wizardry, and based on the trailers we’ve seen thus far, we’re fairly confident that—even without ol’ Harry Potter—we’re going to fall in love with the American contingency of magic workers when they come to life on November 18, 2017.

The Harry Potter films could barely live up to the hype of the books. These original scripts from Rowling will be highly regarded by everybody, no "the books are better" people for these. (I was one...because the books ARE wayy better).

And the books are over-hyped. I devoured fantasy books way before Potter and found the Potter books to be a mishmash of other, better stories. It's just not that imaginative or unique. I suppose Rowlings was just in the right place at the right time for pop culture to suddenly embrace fantasy.

Not that imaginative? Yeah. Best selling books of all time got that way on pure hype alone.

Sure they do, don't kid yourself. Read more fantasy before Potter and put your wand away.

I guess me and most of the world are just kidding ourselves. Thanks for pointing that out. Plus, everything takes from everything so don't kid yourself thinking that this fantasy that you say Potter ripped off didn't take from other works before it.

We've been hearing this was going to be a trilogy, so this is great news all around. I can't wait. The Harry Potter universe is one I love and embrace, and I can't wait to see it get fleshed out more.

I'm looking forward to seeing something fresh in the Potterverse that the audience doesn't know the ending to. For me that's very exciting, for as decent as the HP film adaptions were (on the whole), they were anticlimactic for the fans of the book, in terms of them being films in the mystery genre that people who'd read the books were aware of the twists and turns up ahead. I envied the folk who hadn't read the books who were watching the films with no prior knowledge of what was to occur, because I imagine those members of the audience would have got a kick out of watching them "fresh."

I read tons of fantasy. The Potter series is classic, pure and simple.

David Yates Talks Fantastic Beasts Sequel Script
By Spencer Perry on July 15, 2016

David Yates talks Fantastic Beasts sequel script

We knew before the first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film even began production that Warner Bros. was eager for it to become a series, because they set release dates for three films. Now, though the first film doesn’t open in theaters for another four months, director David Yates is already opening up about the film’s sequel.
“We’ve seen the script for Part 2, for the second movie, which takes the story in a whole new direction – as you should, you don’t want to repeat yourself,” Yates tells EW. “The second movie introduces new characters as she builds this part of the Harry Potter universe further. It’s a very interesting development from where we start out. The work is pouring out of her.”
The Fantastic Beasts sequel is currently set for release on November 16, 2018.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell, Jenn Murray, Jon Voight, Carmen Ejogo, Gemma Chan and newcomer Faith Wood-Blagrove.

The story opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is being produced by David Heyman, producer of all eight of the blockbuster Harry Potter features; J.K. Rowling; Steve Kloves, who scripted all but one of the Harry Potter films; and Lionel Wigram, who served as an executive producer on the last four installments of the franchise. Rowling herself is supplying the screenplay.

Warner Bros. Pictures has the first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them set for a worldwide release in 3D and IMAX on November 18, 2016.

Jon Voight is in the first one? Had no idea.

I hope Farrell's character comes back.

Given that they're already talking about a sequel, I have a feeling Fantastic Beasts is going to be a huge success!

Or they might be expecting the film to do good because it is a film set in the Harry Potter universe. Hoping the fans will throw money at them. That is also a possibility.

True. It is pretty obvious it will do well. The only question mark is if adventures in the Wizarding World without Harry will have the same appeal.

It's guaranteed to be big, it's Harry Potter! It's already got me going back to the movies, then I'll re-read the books and the new Cursed Child play, and get myself all hyped up for Fantastic Beasts (which I still haven't read, but since it's tiny I might as well).

That is something we will see, although to be honest, Harry Potter is probably the least more interesting thing about the Harry Potter universe and its potential. J.K. Rowling made a universe that can be expanded upon like Star Wars is able to be expanded on.

Director David Yates will again take the helm, having just wrapped the upcoming 'Harry Potter' spinoff.

With Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them just a little over three months away from hitting theaters, Warner Bros. has announced its plans for a sequel, which the studio has dated for Nov. 16, 2018.

The first film, which will bow Nov. 18 and is being dubbed a spinoff of the studio's hugely successful Harry Potter franchise, marks author J.K. Rowling's return to the big screen. The Harry Potter author wrote the Fantastic Beasts screenplay, which delves back into the wizarding world made famous by Rowling's seven books that were turned into eight films.

Rowling, who made her screenwriting debut on the first film, is penning the sequel, which will move deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt Scamander and the story's other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.

Director David Yates, who directed the final four Harry Potter films as well as Fantastic Beasts, will return to the director's chair for the sequel, which brings back producers David Heyman, Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram. Neil Blair, Rick Senat and Danny Cohen will serve as executive producers. Though Warner Bros. made no mention of Fantastic Beasts stars like Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller and Katherine Waterston, all are expected to return for the second outing.

The announcement was made by Warner Bros.' Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production, and Sue Kroll, president of worldwide marketing and distribution.

The move comes as Rowling’s world of wizards and magic continues to expand. The new play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two, opened this past weekend to rave reviews in London, creating a frenzy with sold-out performances. The script of the play, just published, has already sold 2 million copies in two days, according to Scholastic. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme parks at Universal Studios in Orlando, Hollywood and Osaka, Japan, are drawing record crowds. And Warner Bros. Studio Tour London -- The Making of Harry Potter is now online and generating robust business.

I've had the release date for the sequel (and third one) on my calendar for ages. I feel like this isn't news...

3 Fantastic Beasts films, then they'll be ready to adapt the Cursed Child for the silver screen.

I don't want the HP universe to ever die.
