Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), a former British SAS soldier in his 20s, forms a security company in 1960s London and goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge), years before he becomes Bruce Wayne’s father. With England balancing on the brink of a civil war, the first skirmishes of an undeclared secret war have begun. In this world of secrets and betrayals, we find Alfred Pennyworth. Nine years of training with the SAS have taught him to be a cynical optimist — expecting the worst, but knowing that he can handle it. Now, thrown back into the civilian world, Alfred’s looking for freedom, security…and love. With his SAS mates “Bazza” (Hainsley Lloyd Bennett) and “Dave Boy” (Ryan Fletcher), Alfred’s in search of an independent life and being his own man who doesn’t take orders and never has to kill anyone. That’s easier said than done for a man with his skill set.

I don’t know why this gets a Blu release but Black Lightning only gets DVD.

Wait, yes I do.

Batman properties are going to have a larger customer base.

I forgot this show existed. Has anyone seen it? Does it have any connection to DC characters beyond Alfred?

I prefer my superheroes to actually be superpowered... Batman is fine, but this is like Gotham, connected to Batman but not even about Batman.

Thomas Wayne shows up and is a recurring character. But you could change out the Batman references for other stuff and the show would be the exact same. It pretty much lures in Batman fans with Alfred and then goes off and does it's own thing.

It's a great show though. I'd absolutely recommend watching.

I'm hoping I can order this through Best Buy like I did with the Black Lightning Season 2 DVD.

Not just Black Lightning. IZombie season 4 & 5 don't have disc releases at all due to season 4's rights issues. Harley Quinn (2019 animated series) looks to not be getting a Blu-ray either.

still seems hard to believe that in today's world somehow rights mistakenly didn't include video for one song or how expensive one single song could be or why they couldn't at least just elevator music the one song in the one episode if must be to get it on blu-ray or why that prevents season 5

or why they put Veronica Mars on iTunes HD but say they can't put it on blu-ray since they have no materials beyond SD

I think iZombie's rights issues were to do with a football team involved in one of the episodes? Probably too expensive to bother for a Blu-Ray set that probably won't sell enough to recoup the costs.

A surprisingly well written, directed, acted season. Eager to see where it goes in S2.

I'll be honest, I had completely forgotten that this show even existed until I saw this announcement.

I have to wait for the Blu-ray as I don't have Epix. Good to hear people like it though. I've been skeptical about the need for this series.

I am in the middle of watching this series right now, having finished episode 4 last night. So far, I really like this show. The show has a very interesting atmosphere/look to it. The writing/dialogue is crisp and tight. The acting is great on all levels and the chemistry among the cast top notch. So far, characters from the Batman universe include Alfred and the Waynes (Thomas and Martha) but, from there, aside from some distant references to Gotham, the show goes its own way and that way is dramatically interesting. I would recommend it to anyone as a standalone series, not just for Batman fans. I haven't even finished season 1 yet and am already hoping the show gets picked up for more episodes.
