Default 7.1 minimum room size

Currently have a 7.1 set up in a room 13' x 15' however I'm moving house soon and the best suited TV room measures 11'7" x 11'10", so a bit smaller.

Is this too small for 7.1 set up? When I upgraded from 5.1 I could immediately tell the difference, but obviously the difference will be less noticeable in a smaller room.

I think it’s a personal preference thing but my room is only 10’4 by 12’8 and I have 7.2.4 and works awesome. I chose in Wall for surrounded backs but I don’t think it’s necessary.

That's great to hear. Most advice I can find online is saying a minimum size for 7.1 is bigger than I already have. If it was too small i could always go 5.1.2 but i much prefer the immersive 7.1 surround

Guidelines may say that it’s overkill but I think not. You already have the gear so may as well put it to use. I would say carefully plan the placement of the room before anything, awkward door placement, windows. I would test out configurations before making anything permanent. Good luck and go for it!

If you have your sofa off the back wall a few feet then it should work.

Yeah the door is at the back of the room, so the sofa will be far enough from the back wall to allow the door to open

That would work. You should think about adding 2 overheads.

I'm not sure if the OP is buying or renting a house but if it's a rental property, in wall speakers wouldn't be an option because the management will not allow the tenant to cut large holes in the walls to install speakers. To be able to make any cosmetic or renovations to a home, you'll have to the owner.

Buying we rent currently so I just have the speakers mounted on the walls. I'll just fill up the holes and paint before moving.

Eventually I'd love to have height speakers. It would give the perfect excuse to upgrade from denon 2400 to 6500 too

Also I had my LG C7 ISF calibrated a couple of years ago. Would it need to be recalibrated after moving house? (the sound obviously will but just checking for TV also)

Depends on how many hours you had your tv before you calibrated it the first time. The more hours the more stable your panel would be.
