I remember some time ago I had a topic about worst video games based off of movies with how terrible so many turn out. However there's some that are good and even some you can call genuinely excellent. What are some good video games based off of movies?
GoldenEye for the N64 is an immediate no-brainer. Talk about an exception to the rule. Barring the dated graphics, I'm hard-pressed to think of anything bad about it. Jurassic Park has been treated a lot better than most with video games as a lot of them are genuinely very good, especially the ones for the Genesis and SNES, and the JP Arcade games were also a lot of fun. JP: Rampage Edition for the Genesis is especially awesome, basically Contra with dinosaurs. The Ghostbusters Genesis game is another that's enjoyable (and there of course the very good 2009 game which is basically the canon third movie), and the Arcade game based on the original RoboCop is very fun (if quite tough). Although not exactly based directly on any of the films from it's respective series, the RoboCop Vs. Terminator Genesis game is a classic. So many memories of that as a kid, and it's still fun to play. True Lies for the SNES is surprisingly good considering it was made by the infamous LJN. There's many enjoyable Alien and Predator games too, not just most of the AVP ones. The Aliens Arcade game, Alien 3: The Gun for the Arcade and also the Alien 3 and Predator 2 Genesis games are fun. Some more off the top of my head that are good and much better than average for most movie VGs are Batman and Gremlins 2 for the NES and Super Star Wars for the SNES. I never played Super Empire Strikes Back or Return Of The Jedi, but the first Super Star Wars game is great. Although taking some considerable liberties with the movie, it made an effort to closely follow the plot and even has the music and sound effects from the movie which made it feel that much more authentic. I actually named quite a few there. Seems there's a lot more good movie VGs than previously thought. |
