Can anyone confirm if this has the optical squeezing/stretching problem (that is on the US disk) fixed?

Could anyone verify if the Fun in the Country featurette found on the US Blu-ray is included here?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I am looking to upgrade my DVD of The Big Country to Blu ray. How does the UK Fox release compare with the highly rated (here) Kino Lorber? Kino's region A locking is not an issue with me.

The MGM release has anamorphic stretching; the Kino has 4 interviews, Directed by William Wyler documentary and a Christopher Frayling commentary track.

Both releases utilize the same underlying remaster but Kino's disc does not have the vertical stretching that was present on the MGM disc (example).

Thanks. I thought it looked like horizontal stretching on the MGM disc. Comparing close-ups of faces with this effect, I definitely preferred the Kino Lorber.

Edit: Just ordered the KL disc.

Cool, I posted this on the Final Cut thread but nice to hear the extras sound like this could actually be a direct port of the Kino Lorber US release...which would imply it's the newer restoration too!

Definitely will get this at some point. I already own the MGM disc but this is one of my favourite Westerns, and the extras but especially the restoration make it worth the double-dip.

Great news, I bought the old MGM release from a charity shop but the image is anamorphically stretched and it's basically barebones, so will definitely upgrade.

Great, if it's the redo (& I'm sure it is) I'll be adding it to my western collection. I was thinking about importing the German release, but now I'll wait for this.

Have pre-ordered this hoping it will be an improvement on previous uk version, but haven't seen any reviews confirming this yet.

Haven't had time to do much checking but in the brief checks I did do, there is more picture on both sides of the image in this new release compared to the old Fox release.

Does the release have any subtitles?

So for those folks that have this new release would you say its the same transfer as the American Kino release with the correct framing & all of the extras that release has?.

I have never seen this western yet so this release could be just as good instead of importing the USA version.

I got the Final Cut release today. It is the corrected transfer.
This disc doesn’t have all the Kino extras. Missing are the tv spot and two animated image galleries.
Everything else is here. The “Fun in the Country” featurette is combined with the “outtake interviews” with Peck, Heston and Wilder.
It also has a nice slipcase.
