Default Xbox 360 having a great December

Since we have no reason not to trust the numbers on www.vgcharts.org, December numbers (so far) would be (approximately):

Americas: 1.2 million
Other: 800K

The Europe numbers are particularly impressive considering how poor European sales were up to now.

And the Wii is rocking. But it probably doesn't have legs past the holidays.

They are selling as many PS3s as they can make. I'm almost certain the the PS3 will beat out all competitiors next year but im sure that Microsoft will still retain the lead. I'm sure the wii will sell well so long as they can get that free internet service up and running.

If MS did get those kinds of #s for december, then im shocked and i aplaud them for a job well done. November for the 360 was bleak at only 720k systems, but thats a huge bounce for them. If they actually did a price drop, then they would have REALLY moved some systems.

I do love my 360, but its not for the mainstreem, its really a system for the hardcore community.

I agree. The nonsense out there that the PS/3 is selling poorly, when it still has supply constraints is truelly rediculous considering NOBODY was saying that last year for the Xbox 360. It was all "shortages" then.

The point of my post was that the Xbox 360 has managed to move from total disaster (it was behind the original Xbox) to being redeemed somewhat.

But, the prediction was 10 million sold by the end of year. And 20+% short is rather poor.

The 360 is doing very well for a system that was out a year ahead of everyone else.

Obviously you're going to see that hyperboled (is that a real word? ) and spun way out of proportion by the usual suspects.

Let's see where everyone is at in another year or so.

I like what I've seen a lot of gaming editorials say: You really don't know anything about a platform until it reaches the 10 million mark anways.

This race has just started. Remember: Tortoise vs. hare.

The Wii is fast approaching 1/2 the sales of the Xbox 360. And its only been out for seven weeks. And it's still selling out. The Wii will probably have a good January (Xmas money being spent) and then tail-off rapidly until next Xmas.

This is where the Xbox 360 had to make its move to dominate. But, really all it did was rise from total disaster outside the Americas (still so in Japan) to mild disappointment status.

It had a good season, but not a take the market away season. It will not make the 10 million predicted, except for shipments. And there will be massive stock to liquidate going forward (needs to be gone before they introduce a revision).

The PS/3 now has the Europe launch as the next big milestone.
