Default Best Final Destination movie?

What's the best Final Destination film?

The first one to me is the only passable one, and even that still had its issues. Then again, you've seen one, you've pretty much seen them all. They all follow the exact same formula, except the sequels do it worse, much like the Bayformers movies. I haven't seen the 5th one (the prequel), but I don't surmise much has changed from the usual FD formula.

What I still can't understand for the life of me is why the hell does Death give its targets those premonitions, allowing them to escape their predicaments if it ended to kill them off? Just another contrivance to get the plot where it needs to go; oh wait, I kinda answered my own question.

I could rank them pretty easily honestly:

FD1
FD5
FD3
FD2
FD4

To be fair it's never explained where the visions come from, so it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with death "sending" visions. Could just be random people with latent psychic abilities or whatever.

Off the top of my head
FD
FD2
FD3
FD5
FD4

But I haven't watched them in a while

I always felt this series had so much potential and could be very smart/cerebral. But they just kinda went dumber and gorier as it went on

So Death would just conveniently pick people with latent psychic abilities to pick off every time? Yet these same "psychics" would never again see visions of what's going to happen, allowing them to escape/survive? Since SPOILER: most of them die?

No, I'm pretty sure it was Death sending them these visions.

...what? You realize hundreds of thousands of people die every day and there are multiple mass casualty events every year yeah? And there were only five movies in an eleven-year span. It's not that death is "conveniently picking" people with psychic powers to die, it's that the 99.99999999999999999999% of people that are picked to die and DON'T have psychic powers obviously aren't going to be the subjects of a Final Destination movie.

And the fifth movie is the only one where the main character DOESN'T continue to have additional psychic visions throughout the film...

In the first film it seemed pretty clear it was just some sort of premonition he had. There was no in depth explanation of it, because it wasn't needed. The idea of death itself sending him the vision would make the whole plot rather needlessly convoluted. It's simply a feature length Twilight Zone type spin on those old stories of someone getting a bad feeling about something and avoiding a fatal car crash or some such thing as a result.

Final Destination 2 has given me an irrational fear of log trucks and things falling under the brake pedal.

That one.

I remember talking to my friends about this series, and they thought Tony Todd was a personification of Death. I thought a neat twist would be if he was an angel, or just a foil to death..and he's the one giving out the premonitions

Yeah, FD2 is the one that hits the anxiety the most. I remember being scared to drive on the interstate after leaving the theater in 2002.

But I kind of like FD3 the most, followed by FD1.
