I'm wondering if collectors pay attention to different pressings of 4K or Blu-ray Collector's/Limited Editions and Digibooks, as some would with vinyl records. Is there a way to tell whether a 4K or Blu-ray Collector's/Limited Edition or Digibook is a first pressing? For example, I guess I would consider the first pressing to be kind of like a Day One release, where there may be different inserts or artwork than on a new batch of the same version months down the road.
The focus of my collection is Steelbooks and any special editions, so I'm basically wondering if first pressings of these exist or if there are only a certain number of these released when the title launches and is sent to retailers and then it goes out of print. I have heard that Collector's/Limited Editions and Digibooks are only released in certain numbers and they are all the same and once they sell out, they're gone and usually aren't restocked. I hope I can get some confirmation on this. I hope this makes sense. Basically, I'm wondering if pressings are a thing in the Collector's/Limited Edition/Digibook collectors world and if they are, if collectors focus on getting the Day One copies. Hopefully someone can explain the process, if there is one. Thanks! I hope this is in the right place. Please feel free to move it if it isn't. I didn't see a "Questions that don't deserve their own thread" thread. |

First pressings really only make a difference for slipcovers and any related swag, the content itself is pretty much always identical on the 2nd, 3rd, etc, pressings.(Although sometimes the disc art may be updated)It's certainly not like vinyl where a second pressing can have any number of differences from the first pressing. As far as SE, LE steelbooks, especially those from specialty shops, blufans, hdzeta, etc, they're always limited to whatever print run the companies choose, and they're never reissued. I'm pretty sure places like Bestbuy print a certain number of exclusive steels and no more when they run out. Digibooks are also made to a certain number, and not reissued as far as I know. Hell, so many collectors I know despise digibooks. I myself have been collecting them since 09, heck, half of them are oop.
