Default Best Opening Lines in Movies

What are your favorite opening lines in movies? My top 5 probably would be:

1) Sin City: "She shivers in the wind like the last leaf on a dying tree."

2) Fight Club: "People are always asking me, if I know Tyler Durden."

3) Evil Dead II: "Legend has it, that is was written by the Dark Ones. Necronomicon Ex Mortis. Roughly translated 'Book of the Dead'. The book served as a passage way to the evil worlds beyond. It was written long ago, when the seas ran red with blood. It was this blood, that was used to ink the book. In the year 1300 AD the book disappeared..."

4) Kill Bill: "Do you find me sadastic?"

5) GoodFellas: "As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster."

"An evil old house, the kind some people call haunted, is like an undiscovered country waiting to be explored. Hill House had stood for 90 years and might stand for 90 more. Silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone."

Really a monologue but-

And that completes my final report until we reach touchdown. We're now on full automatic in the hands of the computers. I've tucked my crew in for the long sleep, and I'll be joining them...soon. In less than an hour we'll finish our six months out of Cape Kennedy. Six months in deep space...by our time, that is. According to Dr. Hasslein's theory of time in a vehicle traveling nearly the speed of light, the Earth has aged nearly 700 years since we left it...while we've aged hardly at all. Maybe so. This much is probably true. The men who sent us on this journey are long since dead and gone. You, who are reading me now, are a different breed...I hope a better one. I leave the 20th century with no regrets, but...one more thing, if anybody's listening, that is. Nothing scientific. It's... purely personal. But seen from out here, everything seems different. Time bends. Space is... boundless. It squashes a man's ego. I feel lonely. That's about it. Tell me, though, does man, that marvel of the universe, that glorious paradox who sent me to the stars, still make war against his brother... keep his neighbor's children starving?

Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas:
"We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold."

The Departed:
“I don't want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me."

T2:
"3 billion human lives ended on August 29th, 1997. The survivors of the nuclear fire called the war Judgment Day."

The Fellowship Of The Ring:
"The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air."

The Prestige:
"Are you watching closely?"

The opening monologue from Resident Evil by Jason Isaacs:

"At the beginning of the 21st century, the Umbrella Corporation had become the largest commercial entity in the United States. Nine out of every ten homes contain its products. Its political and financial influence is felt everywhere. In public, it is the world's leading supplier of computer technology, medical products, and healthcare. Unknown, even to its own employees, its massive profits are generated by military technology, genetic experimentation and viral weaponry."

Cool music in the background..

Clown (driver): Three of a kind. Let's do this.
Clown (gunman): That's it? Three guys?
Clown (driver): Two guys on the roof, every guy gets his share. Five shares is plenty.
Clown (gunman): Six shares. Don't forget the guy who planned the job.
Clown (driver): He thinks he can sit this out and still get his slice? I know why they call him "the Joker".

Annie Hall:

"There's an old joke... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of them says, 'Boy, the food at this place is really terrible.' The other one says, 'Yeah, I know, and such small portions.' Well, that's essentially how I feel about life: full of loneliness and misery and suffering and unhappiness, and it's all over much too quickly."

Love Story (1970)

"What can you say about a 25 year old girl who died? That she was beautiful and brilliant? That she loved Mozart and Bach, the Beatles, and me?"

Quote:
With the coming of the Second World War, many eyes in imprisoned Europe turned hopefully, or desperately, toward the freedom of the Americas. Lisbon became the great embarkation point. But, not everybody could get to Lisbon directly, and so a tortuous, roundabout refugee trail sprang up - Paris to Marseilles... across the Mediterranean to Oran... then by train, or auto, or foot across the rim of Africa, to Casablanca in French Morocco. Here, the fortunate ones through money, or influence, or luck, might obtain exit visas and scurry to Lisbon; and from Lisbon, to the New World. But the others wait in Casablanca... and wait... and wait... and wait.
Quote:
In the decade of the 1930s, even the great city of Metropolis was not spared the ravages of the worldwide depression. In the times of fear and confusion, the job of informing the public was the responsibility of the Daily Planet, a great metropolitan newspaper whose reputation for clarity and truth had become a symbol of hope for the city of Metropolis...
