Post PS3 Hard drive question, please help

I just bought the 40 GB PS3 but I think that having a bigger hard drive would be good.

Can someone tell me how this is done? How do you get the OS on the new drive, and is it a laptop hard drive?

Any info on this is very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Go to this link: http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/PS3/Manuals

and click on the safety and support link. It'll lead you to a PDF file that includes a section on upgrading the hard drive (it should have included with your PS3 as well though). It's not hard and yeah, you use laptop hard drives in the PS3.

easy to do.
Get a larger 2.5" drive (such as 160 GB or even as much as 250 GB), make sure it is an SATA drive.
On the bottom/side of the PS3 is a door, take that out. Unlatch and pull out the hard drive inside it now. Remove the screws that keep it attached to the frame. CAREFUL not to strip the screws. The screws on mine were so tight they stripped immediately, it was very difficult to get out after that.
Once it is out, put the new drive in its place, add the screws, put it back inside and latch it, and replace the cover. Use the backup utility if you made a backup before hand to restore everything.
Also make sure the drive is formatted to FAT 32. It will install everything it needs to. If you do the backup, it will restore everything including games and saves and backgrounds, etc.

Look at the manual, and search the internet for video walkthroughs.
