Default Toy Story 3 vs How to Train Your Dragon

I just want to get a feel on the general consensus.

For me it was neck and neck, and a difficult choice since I rated them both 5 strs, but I had to go with How to Train Your Dragon.

Which was your favorite?

I'd say Toy Story 3, but just barely.

I have been thinking about making this poll for a few days now. But I didnt want to start it until I could actually make a choice myself.

HTTYD is a kids movie, while TS3 is a movie for more mature audience.
Now vote for what you are.

HttYD was a movie for everyone, Toy Story 3 was a movie about moving on. HttYD wins for me, completely.

How, I cant beleive that HTTYD beats TS3.
This sucks.

Oh wait, it wins now.
Thanks God. World is not going to end after all it seems.

P.S I dont have anything against HTTYD, but it was just a forgettable flick to me, its just nowhere near as a good movie as TS3.

is your pole asking about the movies as stand alone items or is it in the Movie theater or in the Home Theater?

i never saw either in the movie theater so i can't answer that. i have seen the dragon movie last night on my HT in blu and it was a perfect 5/5/5 PQ, AQ & the movie itself. toy story hasn't been released on blu yet so i cant comment on that until 2 weeks from now. but when i do comment and vote it will be based on my experience watching them on blu in my home theater.

I think I've posted this in the main HTTYD thread but I think it's overrated. It feels like they played it safe and hit all the checkpoints to make a fun, good movie... but nothing more than that. TS3, on the other hand, raised the bar once again.

Just the movie, NOT the quality of the Blu-ray.

I'll agree with that. And because of that, it even had an old school Disney feel to it. Very balanced between happy/sad and action/story. Formulaic in a good way.... for me.

I thought HTTYD was a little formulaic - great movie, but missing the thematic influences Pixar's work always has more recently been endowed with. TS3 is a little bit of a tighter picture, to be honest.

I'd have to say Toy Story 3 because it has a better story. But both are excellent examples of the genre.

TS3 has a solid narrative, more intricate plot devices and character interaction (thanks to a well established cast). But HTTYD blew me away as a cinema going experience. I vote for "Dragon" based on how i felt after leaving. which I felt and experienced the whole package
TS3 was a beautiful way to wrap up a fine series.

I'm grabbin both regardless..

Ha, I watched HTTYD and was totally impressed last night. Will watch TS3 when the blu finally reaches me. Many say it's a lot better than HTTYD, wonder how good it really is? The suspense is killing me.

Toy Story 3 for me, but only by a hair. HTTYD was a great film, one of Dreamworks best films if not the best. It was also one of the best animated films in recent years not made by Pixar. But TS3 managed to do the near impossible by being a third sequel, animated or not, that lives up to its predecessors as a great film. Had it been almost any other animated sequel, HTTYD would have won for originality alone. But the one thing HTTYD had against it was the "undies" lines. That wee bit o' lower brow humor gets a point deducted resulting in HTTYD getting a 99% in my book and TS3 getting 100%.

D'oh, I mistakenly voted for Toy Story when I wanted to go with Dragon. >_<

Toy Story 3 was an undeniably terrific film, but everything about Dragon just felt epic and more elevated. One of the biggest comparing factors for me were the soundtracks. Randy Newman's scores for the Toy Story series were never particularly noteworthy, and TS3 failed to break any new ground. John Powell's score for Dragon, on the other hand, completely blows TS3's out of the water.

Sonically, thematically, and contextually, there hasn't been a single movie score as satisfying as How To Train Your Dragon this year. It's music storytelling at its finest, and will certainly go down as one of the brightest highlights in Powell's career.

HTTYD is not a kids movie obviously you didn't get the point of the movie here's a hint: Its not about the dragons, watch it again.

My vote goes to HTTYD.

For me it would be very difficult for any animated movie to beat TS3 with all the likeable characters. HTTYD wasn't better IMO but that still doesn't take from how good HTTYD really was.
