Default GoldenEye (1995) vs. Mission: Impossible (1996)

Which mid 90s spy film do you think is better?

GoldenEye all the way. Never liked the first Mission: Impossible film all that much.

I liked the first Mission Impossible movie but I'll go with Goldeneye.

Mission: Impossible, easily. I love me some Goldeneye, but De Palma's film is quite masterful.

I love and own both but Goldeneye is the more enjoyable movie.

Mission Impossible is a bit slow and the stride of that franchise hadn't hit yet.

Mission: Impossible, by a considerable margin.

Both are good films, however Goldeneye is one of the best Bond films (probably because it was written for Dalton in part) and it DID help that it was reinforced by a superb for its time video game.

I haven't watched Mission Impossible 1 in a while, but it was good. Iconic scene with the wire and lasers. However, the beginning of the film and how it treats those characters as a plot device ruined the potential to see the team together in action. It lost the feel of the original TV series. It also shamelessly treats the original character Jim Phelps, which as I've got older and become a fan of the original TV series is unforgivable. To think that the original actors were asked to cameo only to be killed off (thankfully didn't happen). Much respect for these films, particularly from Ghost Protocol onwards (I think Rogue Nation is the best) but the first one takes some wrong turns for fans of the original.

Neither has aged very well. So I pick Tomorrow Never Dies.

Really the original MI film is almost entirely a slick spy thriller were as I do think Goldeneye has a bit more depth to it. I'm not a fan of Brosnans other Bond films but I think him being essentially a slick merger of all the previous Bonds really works here when your essentially taking down that mythology.

Both are good films but it's Goldeneye for me. Of course, nostalgia and the N64 game enhances it for me.

It's one of the best Bond films, it's Pierce Brosnan's best Bond performance.

Mission Impossible sullies itself by disrespecting the characters of the original TV series, something I realised years after watching it.
