Ok, I have a Blu-Ray player a Samsung BD-1400, I know Blu will win the war so I went straight to Blu. Now I have also just picked up an add on HD-DVD player for my X360 since I got it for $75 I thought I would have a bit more selection for 1080p movies for a little while and I dont ever plan to actually buy any HD-DVD discs just rent them from Blockbuster. I can tell the Blu picture quality is better than the HD but here is my question. Loading time on the HD-DVD player is much quicker, and it goes directly to the movie title menu, no previews, no waiting, just click play and the movie starts. Is this just a result of the X360 player? meaning for some reason skips all the previews so it loads faster? And yes I have done all the updates on my BD player.

Just skip them...or if they can't be skiped just scan thru them.....some are worthless but some are really good.

Standalones have longer loading times. The PS3 loads fast. But the HD-A3 loads very slow, even just to eject.

The load times are due to the player. Standalones have pretty lengthy load times. THe PS3 is by far the fastest.
The previews are the studios fault. Disney does love to cram a crapload of previews. Sony does as well. But just skip through them. |

Ehh, its a minor inconvenience. It gives me time to do a couple things before the movie starts. If I don't have anything to do, then I just skip the previous or fastforward to the menu.

So i can tell you this. the xbox add on and the ps3 load much faster then their stand-alone counter parts. I don't know why and i've never really questioned it, but they load right up like a standard-dvd player. for the A3 from the moment you power it on it takes about 15 seconds before the TV recognizes it..then load the movie fine ( unless it has web enabled stuff..then it might take a few more minutes of waiting ). From the bu players i've played with at best buy they seem to have the same wait time and depending on what movies you are watching takes abit longer to load from there ( pirates was the movie i was playing with ).. |

Most discs will let you bypass the previews and take you straight to the menu by simply hitting your "Menu" button on your remote.
I can't speak to HD-DVD as I've never had or used a player of any type. There soon won't be any previews on HD-DVD discs at all, as there won't be anything new coming out to preview! ![]() |

Yeah Disney is bad with the previews. But man Lions Gates is pretty bad too.The 3:10 to Yuma Blu-Ray disc had like 20 minutes of previews at the start and some of the previews are movies that have been out for a while.I sat threw The Rambo preview and the rest I just skipped threw.

This really is nothing new though. DVDs have been doing this for a long time, and sometimes they are programmed to prevent skipping so you HAVE to sit through it!
So far I have not run into that for previews on BDs. But yes, Disney has always been infamous with their home videos for adding tons of previews before it starts. But luckily it is easy to skip them. |

Here's my two cents: PS3 and 360 are computers, plain and simple. They are going to load any disc a heck of a lot faster than any stand alone player. |

And I guess CptGreedle is right, it's nothing new to be forced to watch previews, I just thought the lack of them on HD-DVD was an HD-DVD feature. |
