Default Hard Rain Re-Release Blu-Ray Coming Soon?

I know this is purely conjecture...but I recently picked up the Paramount Blu-Ray of Breakdown with Kurt Russell (nicely done, with a commentary with Kurt 'The Man' Russell involved)...and I saw something interesting.

The only three trailers connected to it were: Breakdown, Kiss the Girls, and Hard Rain.

Since Hard Rain (with Christian Slater and Morgan Freeman) has been out of print for a while...I would have to think that a reason for the film being advertised onto that Blu-ray is for advertisement of an upcoming item.

It would be nice as I do enjoy that flick...not as good as films like Broken Arrow or Con Air, but it was fun popcorn entertainment and Slater I always found to be a bit underrated (Kuffs, Gleaming the Cube, Broken Arrow, etc.).

I'm with you. I love Christian Slater flicks. And I've been looking for Hard Rain on bluray, and found a couple on ebay, but I was thinking that they were fakes because they were pretty cheap. But you make a good point, that if they're showing trailers for an old film on a new bluray release, we may be getting a new bluray in the Presents line... Good call. I hope so.

Gleaming the Cube has been my most wanted bluray release (since The Golden Child and Rad both got releases last couple of years) and I feel like it's got to be coming soon.

Just got my copy of Hard Rain bluray in the mail today. Looks perfect for a used copy. Quite happy with it. Time to watch it. I don't think I've sat down for the entire film before... Strange, considering I really enjoy Christian Slater flicks.

I saw the trailer for Hard Rain to on the Breakdown BD. So far it hasn't got released by Paramount on BD. I already have the Lionsgate BD but if they did a 4K remaster I'll buy it again.

Maybe Paramount took a look and decided it needed some work done first. Early on the BD looks rather weird. Some of it could have been my disc, as it's completely bronzed with at least a dozen blue spots. I don't know how much longer it'll last, but it still played fine the other day, once I got it to load. Quickly ordered a replacement copy from ziarecords just in case. But it would be great to see what 4K and especially HDR can do for this film.

I watched mine a while back, it was bronzed and froze about 20 minutes from the end... dead after that. There's a region free blu-ray from Germany, that's what I decided to go with for a replacement.

Thanks for that. I was surprised that our copy, that was completely bronzed and speckled, still played without so much as a hickup from beginning to end. Fortunately, it hasn't hit OOP premiums yet, so I was still able to pick up a used copy for under fifteen bucks. The new disc looks fine, but the case had a new barcode sticker that may indicate a production change. The german release appears to be only a year newer, so I suspect they both use the same master, even though it's reportedly 16bit 5.1 vs Lionsgate's 24bit 7.1. With my hearing that's less of a deterrent than the lack of English subs though. It's good to know there's another option though, should Lionsgate's release prove permanently OOP. This one doesn't seem like it would be a high priority for Paramount to revisit in 4K, but I could easily see Kino jumping on it.

Add me to the list of fans who want a 4K release of this title. It's going to need a restoration for sure.

Edit: Just bought the digital on sale for $5 so I can toss the dvd now

I just finished re-watching this tonight, hadn't seen it since its theatrical release. I had mostly forgotten about it, but it's a lot better than I remember. Tempting to pick-up an old LaserDisc edition if I can, but a nice new 4K from a boutique would be great! Maybe Kino Lorber or Arrow will snag the license?
