Well, I, for one, am very excited for this project. The subject matter is rather interesting and the talent involved is spectacular. The film is directed by Rick Famuyiwa (The Wood, Brown Sugar, Dope) and stars Kerry Washington (Scandal), Wendell Pierce (The Wire, Treme), and Jeffrey Wright (Angels in America, Casino Royale), among others. This will be the first lead role for actress Kerry Washington, after a string of great supporting roles in Ray, Last King of Scotland, and Night Catches Us.

Confirmation: TV Review (The Hollywood Reporter)
Quote:
The timeliness of HBO's Confirmation has been in a constant state of flux since production began last year.

The telefilm about Clarence Thomas' Supreme Court confirmation hearing and the testimony and treatment of Anita Hill was always earmarked for 2016, the 25th anniversary of that political circus.

At one point it looked as if Confirmation might premiere as Vice President Joe Biden was running for the White House, putting a spotlight on the then-Senator's key role in the hearing. Even with Biden out of this year's presidential race, Confirmation posits the influence Hill had in generating a backlash against the Old Boy's Club of Washington, so it has some relevance against the current backdrop of Hillary Clinton's run to become the first female commander-in-chief.

Then, in February, Antonin Scalia died and the constitutionally mandated search for his replacement fell victim to partisan rancor, adding shadings to Confirmation's depiction of a new (Robert Bork's 1987 rejected nomination is mentioned in the opening) tide of political theater infecting the realm of presidential appointments.

Confirmation also premieres on HBO on April 16, as viewers will still be coming down from the high of FX's addictive The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, which has whet appetites for star-studded recreations of '90s real-world obsessions. Read the full review here.

Honestly, this doesn't interest me at all but I really like Kerry Washington and Wendell Pierce so I may end up seeing this at some point.

The documentary Anita is also fantastic stuff. What was done to that woman is shameful.

I totally agree with what you said about it being shameful what was done to her. Anita Thomas was a very courageous woman to have to endure what she did. I am watching the movie now and it brings back so much anger I had and still have for Clarence Thomas getting on the Supreme Court after what he did to Anita and many other women who never came forward. Clarence Thomas has been a failure as a supreme court justice.

Confirmation is a conventional although intelligent HBO docudrama, featuring superb performances from Kerry Washington and Wendell Pierce, that touches upon important issues of racism and sexism within the American political landscape. Recommend.

I actually watched the film on HBO Max tonight and something the genuinely pissed me was when Thomas tries to assassinate Angela Wright's character by claiming he fired her over her use of a homophobic slur. Thomas is one to talk when he and Samuel Alito are basically saying me and millions of other American citizens don't deserve basic human rights. That and the unintended chuckle of Thomas claiming the proceedings were the equivalent of a modern lynching when his potential future coworker wrote this:

The movie itself was fine, certainly relevant to what's going on in the U.S. right now. The thing that struck me the most was how these justices following in the steps of trailblazers (Thomas following Marshall, Barrett potentially replacing Ginsburg) is how they seem like the inverse of their predecessors.
