Sony BDP-S6700E Multi-Region / Multisystem 4K-Upscaling Blu-ray Disc Player with Wi-Fi
Thinking about getting a 4K player. This one is also region free. Upscaling Blu-rays to 4K quality(not true 4K). Anyone own this one. Any thoughts about this player good or bad. Thanks in advance. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...g_blu_ray.html |

That player will not playback native 4K Blu-ray discs. You would be better off going with the Sony UBP-X800M2 which does offer native 4K Blu-ray disc playback. Also all North American Blu-ray players from Sony, Panasonic, and others because of licensing agreements with the BDA are required to be region A and region 1 locked coming off the assemble line. However, under the current law third party companies are allowed to hack, modify, and install region free and region selectable kits to make Blu-ray players region selectable or region free. It voids the manufactories warranty and the third party company usually offers some type of warranty on modified players. Sometimes firmware updates can on purpose or by mistake disable the region free upgrade kits. Firmware updates once a year are required to play the latest new release 4K Blu-ray titles and standard Blu-ray titles that have the latest encryption keys.
