What 1080p iTunes movies use the remastered version and which still use the old master? I've compared a few remastered blu ray's to the version on iTunes and sometimes iTunes uses the remaster but mostly not. For instance:
- The Good, the bad and the ugly (non remastered version) - Fargo (non remastered version) - Rain Man (remastered version) - Blazing Saddles (remastered version) - In the heat of the night (non remastered version) - Patton (non remastered version) - Out of Africa (non remastered version) Before buying I would like to know which version I'm buying. So if anybody knows more titles this is the thread for it! |

Good idea!
I can’t speak for the Blu-ray of Tin Cup, but going by reviews it is a really nice remaster. I bought the iTunes HD version in a recent sale (UK store) and out looked fine but old in terms of the master. I’d be very surprised if it’s the remastered Warner Archive master. |

Oh yes and Antz is another one. Great Blu-ray release and looks absolutely awful on iTunes (again UK store). Looks SD basically, it’s horribly soft.

Stuff talking about iTunes masters.
Quote:
Hardcore and Day of the Jackal use the same transfer as the US/UK BDs. Ichi the Killer, The Terminator, Fargo (contradicting OP), Robocop (not sure if its 2014 MGM or 2019 Arrow, but probably 2014 MGM), Henry: PoaSK, and Memento are remastered. Maniac is from an older master and Leon: The Professional International Cut and Terminator 2 SE are presumably an older master as well. Last edited by Streetlight; 05-19-2020 at 08:38 PM. |

I'm pretty sure that Fargo and Robocop are not the remastered version. I've compared both to the remastered blu ray. And some more titles:
- The apartment (non remastered version) - Some like it hot (non remastered version) - Being there (non remastered version) - Blue Velvet (non remastered version) - Do the right thing (non remastered version) - Dressed to kill (non remastered version) - Manhunter (non remastered version) - 12 Monkeys (non remastered version) - Midnight Run (non remastered version) |

The Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! thread discusses the use of DNR on the recent Blu-ray release versus no DNR on iTunes. The consensus seems to be no DNR is more faithful to the original, even if the picture quality might not be as nice.

I'd like to know as well. I just looked at my Prime version, and it sure looks unremastered. If the Apple one is remastered, I'll buy it there for $4.99.

For a lot of classic movies, I’ve noticed that the new master will be on Movies Anywhere and all other sources use an older one. The Maltese Falcon (1941) and Dracula (1931) are two off the top of my head. I would go there as a point of reference for most films (not Paramount and others obviously).
