Default 5 Best Movies Inspired by 'Saturday Night Live'

I just read this write up on Yahoo of the top 5 best SNL inspired movies, so I thought I'd create a poll including all of the SNL films and see which do you think is the absolute all-time greatest SNL inspired film. I couldn't choose just one, so I included my top 3, but my vote got to the Blues Brothers for replay value alone, even if Wayne's World taught me to schwing at the age of 7.

The Blues Brothers (1980)
The first feature film spun off from SNL is still considered to be the best. The characters of "Joliet" Jake (John Belushi) and Elwood Blues (Dan Aykroyd) were never in a sketch on the show, but they were the musical guests in 1978. The movie is not only wildly funny with some of the best car chases ever filmed, but it also preserves some wonderful performances by music legends like James Brown, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and John Lee Hooker.

Wayne's World (1992)
After Mike Myers and Dana Carvey helped revitalize SNL in the early '90s, it was only logical to bring their signature characters to the big screen. The movie was so popular it put Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" back on the Billboard top 10 singles chart nearly two decades after it was first released. "Wayne's World" was a surprise smash, taking in $121 million in the U.S., but the sequel in 1993 made less than half that amount.

Office Space (1999)
Milton, the mumbling, bespectacled cubicle drone from this cult classic, first appeared in an animated short that Mike Judge created before he made "Beavis and Butthead." The series of cartoons were featured on SNL in 1993. In the original, Judge provided the voice of both Milton and his boss, and much of the dialogue was re-used in the movie version, including Milton's threat to "set the building on fire."

If anyone selects Blues Brothers 2000 they should forever be banned from the internet.

Elwood: "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, a half a pack of cigarattes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses." Jake: "Hit it."

A Mighty Wind was based off an SNL skit? Nice. I'll go with that and Office Space. Blues Brothers and Wayne's World were good too.

And all prints, negatives, masters, home video releases etc. of Blues Brothers 2000 should be destroyed.

Actually "Milton" was already a festival-independent short that had been shown on MTV--
(And which only got shown on SNL at all because of Viacom's cross-promoting connections, but MTV had too much tradmarked claim on the B&B, leaving SNL to leech/coattail where they could.

And as I like to torment Space-outs with , the only reason we got "Office Space" at all was..."Because Judge wanted to make a bold satirical statement for the Working Man in the 90's? "
Noooo....Because Fox had Judge under contract for a live-action Beavis & Butthead before Paramount/Viacom formed MTV Films and swiped the project out from under them for the "real" animated version, leaving Judge contractually obligated to owe Fox a live-action film.
So, reaching into his incisive, versatile repertoire, he did...a live-action movie of the only OTHER animated short he was already known for. Don't cry if you're hearing this for the first time, fans.

Has to be The Blues Brothers. The scene where they drive thru the mall still looks wicked to me every time I view it. Hey Universal how about this one on blu?

The Ladies Man, still on of my favorite movies for some reason. Leon Phelps is the man.

"Listen. I don't care what you say. Chlamydia is a soup. It's my opinion. I can have that if I'd like. You don't have to argue. I've seen it on the grocery store shelf. Don't argue with me about it. I don't care if you are a doctor."

Blues Brothers is just exactly perfect.

Other SNL movies blow stinky goat herds, for the most part. I haven't seen several of them though.

Blues Brothers all the way, with Office Space a close second and everything else a cut below. Of course, Macgruber hasn't been released yet.

This poll is going exactly how I ranked my top 3, Blues Brothers, Office Space and Wayne's World. Guess that's the general consensus among everybody.
