Default Will Lord of the Rings Get 4k iTunes Treatment

Does anyone know when iTunes will get Lord of the Rings in 4k + HDR/DV treatment?

no idea.

My question is which version will be released in 4k on iTunes?

I prefer the extended edition of the LOTR and Hobbit trilogies.

As of now, King Kong's theatrical version (2005) is available in 4K but not the extended edition.

That’s true, I’d for sure wait for the extended versions, although the theatrical ones are long enough. 😂

I'm sure I read on here, in one of the threads, that one of The Hobbit movies (I forget which one) went 4K on iTunes Sweden, for a very short time (maybe just a few hours), and it was the theatrical version...

Not sure if that means anything in particular, but we will see very soon...can't wait!

I’m pretty confident both theatrical and extended editions will upgrade to 4K/Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos. I believe it will be either Monday 30th Nov or Tuesday 1st Dec - one of them.

I believe the extended editions of DoS and TBofFA are/were upgraded to 4K Dolby Vision in Sweden already.

King Kong extended is also 4K HDR in the US.

TTT is in 4K Dolby Vision on UK iTunes now. First noticed it last night. I imagine someone pressed the button too earlier but the other 2 should make the switch on Monday I'd imagine.

TTT shows the 4K logos in the store, but still only plays in HD. It won’t turn until early next week.

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King theatrical. is DV/DA on NZ iTunes store.

Its the only one to be upgraded ATM. I will buy when all three have upgraded.

Well I’m eating my prediction - just tried and TTT now plays in 4K/DV/DA, after days of just being listed as such.

Looks glorious!

When I tried a couple of hours ago it wasn’t... this was Apple TV 4K through TV app. How did you get FOTR EE to play 4K, was it in TV app or Movies app? I tried both, to no avail...

So are both versions of each of the six movies now all sorted in Irish/UK store - matching IDs with the US, correct extras on theatricals, full extras on extended, etc. ?

All of the LOTR and Hobbit films (except ROTK Extended) have now been upgraded in New Zealand.

Same here in Singapore. ROTK extended remains HD for some reason.

LOTR extended versions still showing HD on the TV app on my phone. Hoping this will update shortly. My copy of Blade has upgraded to 4K in iTunes, but is still HD on the TV IOS.

Same here in Thailand. Not sure why ROTK extended version still in HD and they have removed ROTK from the store as well

It was using the Apple TV 4K. It seems to have been hit and miss for the past few days. At the moment both FOTR and TT EE's are 4K DV. ROTK is still HD in the UK.

Only TTT shows in my 4K HDR library though. It's all a bit disorganised!
