Default Bad Boys for Life (2020) - January 17, 2020

File this under rumors for now:

Per The Hollywood Reporter:

Quote:
Columbia Pictures is developing a third installment of the high-octane "Bad Boys" franchise, tapping Peter Craig to pen the screenplay.

The hope is to have a script that would reunite director Michael Bay, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. At this point, with the project in the early stages, none has a deal to return.

The "Boys" movies feature Smith and Lawrence as Miami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, caught up in cases involving car chases and explosions.

The first "Boys," released in 1995, helped launch Bay as a director and Smith as an action star even though it was not a fire-stamped blockbuster -- it grossed $66 million domestically and $141 million worldwide.

The sequel, released in 2003 when Bay and Smith's stars had risen, grossed $138 million domestically and $273 million worldwide.

All parties have expressed a willingness to return if a story can be hammered out. One potential hurdle, however, would be the costly deals with the players.

Craig, repped by CAA and Management 360, co-wrote "The Town," which Ben Affleck is directing for Warner Bros. and which shoots in Boston next month. He is adapting anime "Cowboy Bebop" for 20th Century Fox and Keanu Reeves.
I really want a Bad Boys 3. It's the type of movie Bay is best at.

I can't see it happening, after such a long break the risk of continuing a film series increases, and Bad Boys 2 was barely a mega hit (and it would have to be a few more years before filming could start as Bay is no doubt busy with Transformers 3, and Smith isn't exactly Mr Sloth either).

I hope for fans that it happens, I just can't see it.

Might be cool, but seems really unlikely. What would be kinda cool imo, is if they did a kind of 'reboot' with the franchise and had Will Smith and/or Martin Lawrence as Police Chief/Captain whatever and they had to deal with all of the problems two new partners on the force were causing for them.

Do you see any other reason why they would delay the Blu-ray releases of Bad Boys and Bad Boys 2? This is going to happen.

There are countless reasons. Once again I hope it happens for the sake of fans, but I don't think the lack of blu-ray release means much of anything with regards to the sequel.

I don't trust that any movie franchise will stay at only 2. There is always a strong possibility to make it into a trilogy, especially if the studio can convince the main 4 to get back in for another (Smith, Lawrence, Bruckheimer, and Bay). I would likely see it if it happens, but we'll see what happens with the rumor mill on this one. I know the Poll Czar would love a new Martin Lawrence epic

I would gladly watched it if it happens. Still don't know why we don't have Bad Boys 1 and 2 on BD.

I enjoyed the first 2 movies, and would love for a 3rd, but I'm skeptical. First, it'd be difficult to get a time when Will Smith and Michael Bay are free. I would think if Bay were going to do this he wouldn't be able to do Transformers 3, although it is possible that he won't direct Transformers 3 regardless. Smith also has a full slate of rumored films, including rumored sequels to Men in Black, Hancock, and an I Am Legend prequel. Also, the salaries for Smith, Lawrence, and Bay would likely exceed $60 million and the production cost would probably be an initial $100 million so it would take a big investment from Sony. I hope this gets made but I won't get my hopes up.

I am more interested in the Cowboy Bebop adaptation (and I'm not that big of an anime fan)! But, Keanu Reeves? hmmm...

I don't understand those who doesn't want it.The first one was traditional high-octane shite. It really stank. But the second one was incredibly funny. It was like with Armageddon and Transformers (Not related I know, but same director),I didn't see transformers on account of armageddon was so utterly crap (had some moments-like opening, but not nearly enough to save it),but transformers (#1) was hillarious.Couldn't stop myself laughing.

It might be brilliant the third installment of the bad boys

As long as it's lean and mean like Bad Boys, I'm in. If it's another bloated mess like Bad Boys II, I'll gladly ignore it.

My thoughts exactly. They've had Bad Boys 2 on that Blu-ray trailer since the very beginning, but we're still waiting to see a finished product. Granted, Bad Boys 2 isn't the only movie in that trailer that we're still waiting for.
