Default I Was Banned By Mistake

Yesterday, 2001: A Space Odyssey was released on 4K UHD. I, along with many others, put the digital code up for sale in the Digital Code Trading Forum.

Today I received this message:

Quote:
You have been banned for the following reason:
Please re read the rules. You can not buy/sell/ask/trade titles before their release date.
Yesterday was the release date. I see Blu-ray.com has weirdly placed it back in pre-order mode. What happened?

WB changed the official release date to November 20th. However, many retailers already had copies to release this week and sent them out. So even though the release date is in late November there are a ton of copies out there and more will continue to come out leading up to the official release date.

The release date rule for digital codes is kind of stupid. If someone has the code in hand they should be able to sell it. And with the way 2001 is being released it definitely needs to be exempt from bannings.

Thank you!

How would one even know that the date had been pushed back? The ban made no sense unless whoever banned me was unaware of the release date.

Yep. Release date was changed. Some were sent out accidentilly. It still can't be bought in stores anywhere.

You're banned, but you're here -- or does your ban take place at the stroke of midnight like Cinderella?

Admittedly this is beyond a very strange situation with multiple release dates and at least one Retailer (Amazon mostly) being allowed to ship product before official release date. I'm going to assume you were able to get some Mod to see the bizarreness of this specific instance and win an appeal since you sold based on the expected and essentially effective Release date. This isn't one of those Pre-order special codes that the policy was supposed to be directed at.

There were posts all over the 2001 threads mentioning it, but some retailers updated their official release date and some didn't just calling it a Factory Delay

It was likely a 24 hour ban from yesterday. He posted the sale a little after 8 pm yesterday, and probably got the ban quickly after.

It was only a 24-hour ban. But I had no idea that the release date was changed. When you're banned you can't contact anyone.

If the official announcement on here indicated 10/30 as the release date (and was not updated), then there should not have been a suspension. Just my 2 cents.

There was never an announcement that the date had changed. Furthermore, the title doesn't usually ship when a title's release date is pushed back.

My suggestion (in the future), instead of publicly calling out the the mods...

At the bottom of each forum is a list of mods that are responsible for that specific forum. In this case, the trading forum will have a list. Pick a mod from that list and send a PM (of course that's once you have access to PM system).

I should probably do both. Other people may have had the same experience and it would be helpful to avoid whatever this was by having a public discussion about it. But I didn't call out any specific mod because I don't know who it is.

Honestly, I still don't know if I was singled out or if everyone who listed one got banned. And, again, how was I supposed to know the release date had changed when I received the title on the day I was supposed to receive it?

Because some places sell/ship stuff early. Best Buy does it all the time. Just because you get something early doesn't mean you get to sell it. Yes the date was supposed to be in Oct but it was changed. The change was discussed in length in its 4K thread and was well known.

And yes everyone that tried to sell it was suspended.

PMS are disabled for members in the "banned" user group . The code trading/selling areas of the forum are very problematic in terms of the amount of rules that are not followed, which directly leads to posts being reported.

The moderation team has a limited amount of human resources to address code issues. Thus, members are asked to take personal responsibility and follow the rules...non habitual offenders typically get a day or two off and then they can resume their daily forum activities. It's not a big deal.

I had an instance where two members had a dispute for less than a dollar and they each sent me dozens of pms on the issue...neither party was satisfied with the resolution I offered (which was basically to move on since it was a "he said, he said" situation where it was impossible to determine fault)..it was for less than a dollar. Nobody has, nor they should be asked, to waste time addressing the same, repetitive situations.

I am not directing my message towards anyone specifically, but in general . Code trading and selling is a free site service and we ask the members to be familiar with all the rules before participating. Members should not expect that moderators will be sending a pm detailing all the rules and the infractions before a suspension or temp banned is issued as sending a pm always leads to an extended back and forth.

Thanks.

I guess I've never heard of a 24 hr Suspension -- i thought 3 days or 1 week was the shortest.

Anyway -- irrelevant at this point, but this was such an odd situation I think (my opnion which is beyond irrelevant here) is that some leeway should have been offered.

This wasn't a Diabolik situation where they ship products 2 week prior to release date or even a BBY deliver it 2-3 days early.
It was the official release date for 6 months and the codes went up after that expected date. The official release wasn't changed until a few days ahead of time and then Amazon shipped their product based on the original date and even a week later people still didn't know the release was actually delayed and are still confused by seeing pre-order pages and why their stores have shelf labels and no product.

Reminds me of a Philosophy Class in College:
Two hunters walk into the woods on a deer hunting trip at 6am 10/30 .
Warden comes along at Noon and post a sign "No Hunting Allowed -- effective date 10/29 by decision of City Commission Meeting dated 10/29 at 11:59pm local time"
Officers Arrest Hunters
Shows them the sign that they violated the law
Hunters Protest

Who was right, who was wrong.
Are there partial degrees are right/wrong?
Can everyone be right and wrong simultaneously?
In the end and at what point does right/wrong/legal/illegal overlap and diverge -- what is the Correct and morally right thing to do when ' Wrong and C'mon Man " intersect.

First, you're always fair, neoz. I appreciate that.

I had no idea the date was pushed back until I was banned. I pre-ordered the set months ago and it arrived on what I thought was its release date. I looked at its entry in the Blu-ray.com database and see that the release date wasn't changed until October 24th... 6 days before it was released. And there was no update in the news section. So, without an announcement, one would have to be reading that 4k thread to know the date was pushed back.

I appreciate the site and the ability to trade here. I'm also thankful for all the work the mods do. I just thought it was unfortunate as to how this particular situation was handled.

I think the problem with selling codes before their release date is that they're not always available to redeem until that date. So you're selling/trading something that can't be used. It's an understandable rule, but its just unfortunate to get hit with a ban with 2001's date change.

We've been hit by push backs a lot this year.

I think common sense should prevail in these cases, but it seems some are just too quick to drop the ban hammer.

It sucks when the site officially reviews something and other users get it early, making the unaware assume it’s been released, only to find out its not. Lol

Well, I joined this site YESTERDAY and got already banned, no warning, no explanation. Just because someone accused me of being a sock account.

I was originally in other forums, so i know stuff about movies still i posted a lot because this site qas new.

Then, the day after after I was banned, without any explanation.

Nobody - admins or mods - checked the IP or said who was this dude who i don't even know, so they "automatically"(?) assumed i was a sock for some reason, just because i have my takes.

Then, I created this account, in order to post here and address the whole issue. Please help

I didn't do anything wrong, no insults, nothing yet i am banned after a single day.

My username is Starscreamx9

PLEASE someone tag a mod, because i didn't do anything wrong!

I was also banned by mistake please help
