M:I 2 is almost ACTION JACKSON-level stupid, but without that film's charm. I watched it again for the first time in nearly 20 years recently, and boy, it just revels in its excesses. Why does Tom Cruise think it is okay to defy physics if he is not occupying the MATRIX universe. Two motorcycle riders, each going 90mph at each other, collide head on, then fall on the sand and keep fighting! Dudes weren't even wearing helmets, not that helmets would have helped their crushed bodies. Makes Moore-era Bond seem realistic, if that's even conceivable.

QUANTUM, on the other hand, is the only Bond movie movie that has really engaged me (in parts, not throughout) since 1989. That's in spite of ADHD cutting and the presence of Craig. When you freeze frame on a shot, you usually find a really nice composition. And the 'night at the opera' sequence actually works in a way setpieces in the Craig era have for me almost universally failed, probably because it almost seems music-driiven like the best Bond set-pieces from the John BArry-scored films.

It's mostly the cutting rather than the camera movement. Schaefer deliberately avoided using shakeycam because he had no interest in veering Bond into BOURNE territory, that's from his mouth to my ear. Now, as for the guys shooting 2nd unit, who WERE actually BOURNE vets, I don't know if THEY got the message or if so, if they understood it ..
