Has anyone heard or read any rumors regarding a release of this movie on blu-ray. It's been 20 years since it was released

I know the movie wasn't technically about Bobby Fischer, but man did they leave out a lot of stuff about that guy that wasn't exactly flattering.

...did anyone bother to tell that kid that his idol was a raging anti-semite?

This one was critically acclaimed at the time and has a 100% RT score. Sadly very few people saw it though. Much of the chess portrayed in the movie was of course pure Hollywood and would get you disqualified in a tournament but it's just a movie. Been putting off purchasing this digitally in the hopes a blu will get released, preferably with some extras from a company like Criterion.

Totally agreed. This and Nobody's Fool (Paul Newman from 1994) are my two most coveted Blu ray releases. My wife and I watched this again last night for about the 10th time. Everyone's performance is pitch perfect. I'm surprised this has not received the Blu treatment....

I love this movie. Being an avid chess fan and tournament player drew me to it many years ago, but really anyone can enjoy it. It’s just very well done and all the actors were great. This needs a Blu-ray release!

It's an unknown gem. I just don't think enough people are interested in high-level chess to make this a more popular movie.

I hear there's this hit show on Netflix that takes place in the chess world. It's called The Queen's Gambit.

Maybe you have something in your catalog that could take advantage of its popularity?

I Mantegna might make a Kingsley sum of money!
